Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot.
Are we so addicted to our processed foods and drinks that we have become PROCESSED PEOPLE?
The statistics are in fact terrifying. Here’s what you probably already know two hundred million Americans are overweight and 100 million are obese. More than 75 million Americans have high blood pressure. 24 million people are diabetic. Heart disease remains the No. 1 cause of death for men and women, followed by stroke and obesity-related cancers. Obesity is now the No. 1 cause of preventable deaths in the United States, tobacco is number 2.
You've probably heard by now there is a financial crisis in this country? You know what is the cause of more than 50 percent of the bankruptcies in the United States? It is NOT home mortgage interest rate hikes. It's 'medical debt'. Fast food and unhealthy diets have made us rush to the doctors more than we have ever done in the past. Medicine and drugs and doctors are doing a good job keeping us alive longer, but it is very expensive and a lot of people go broke trying to stay alive. Our fast instant gratification lifestyles and reliance on processed media news have turned a lot of our neighbors into uninformed, unhealthy, legally drug addicted, indebted 'processed people'.
Processed People features direct, sensible, feet on the ground advice from nine health and environmental experts/advocates (several practicing medical doctors are included). They discuss how and why Americans got themselves into this mess and what can be done to break out of the processed cycle. .
The 40 minute documentary produced, written and directed by husband and wife filmmakers Jeff & Sabrina Nelson is pretty dry, but the talking heads and additional footage give us a quick lecture on what we are doing to ourselves by not eating healthy, not exercising enough and by relying on drugs. If you need a wake-up call on common sense… eat fresh vegetables and fruits, stop bad habits like smoking and drinking and exercise more, than this DVD is exactly what you should watch.
It’s good, safe, sober information. You simply change bad habits into good ones and you’ll feel better and live longer.
This 40 minute, very informative DVD documentary isn’t selling anything but common sense. No pills, no diet books, no exercise equipment or program.
The DVD also features 2 hours and 35 minutes of extras that included extended interviews (2 hours and 20 minutes worth) with the nine ‘experts’ interviewed for the documentary. They have lots of experience and probably know what they are talking about. There are also trailers of other DVDs (25 minutes worth). Excuse me… munching on some carrots now….
I was a bit mislead by the cover of the DVD that makes it look like a Morgan Spurlock type of documentary movie that will include some pranks or humorous footage and gags. Instead, 9 health care and environmental experts several of them doctors, deliver sobering statistics and offer simple solutions.
I picked up the DVD from the library, can’t say I’m particularly impressed with its slick production…except that it’s simple message and scary facts that I assume are well known, are obviously still being ignored by a lot of people. It’s refreshing the video is NOT an infomercial to sell you something else. So don’t ignore this stuff or you won’t be around as long as you should be.
Excuse me while I stretch and do a few minutes of exercise now……
3 and a half stars elevated to 4 because it's good for you.
