Update - More time has passed since my original review, and I have a one main comment to add. My headlamp is broken! The light now does not work at all. Out of the blue when using my lamp, it would start to go out occasionally. I would pull it off my head and jiggle it, and then it would come back. This went on for a one or two more uses, and then it just quit. The bulb and batteries are fine, but the lamp is not. The sad part is that I by no means put this lamp through strenuous or extensive use. It has gotten used maybe once or twice a month for about a year and half. Tis a shame, I liked this light.
I can't say say that I would buy it again without having tried another brand first. I still hold that it is a good headlamp, because others in my family seem to enjoy it, and they have had no problems. I am just saying that I would not want this to be my only source of light in a cave.
I bought this headlamp a while ago, because I thought that it might be very useful in many situations, and it is relatively cheap. I think I paid around 20 bucks for it, which is about the cheapest headlamp around, there are some others though too(Petzel). Since that time I have found the lamp to be extremely useful. Some of the uses included working on a car at night, backpacking, caving, reading in the dark, and many others. The light has held up very well, although its use has not been strenuous, so I can't say how it will do under those circumstances. The lamp is very comfortable to wear, and I have even at times forgot that it was on my head. I light is adequate in most normal uses, such as described above. Another positive is that it is not a battery hog, I would say that I get at least 6, but upwards of 8-10 hours out of two batteries.
The few drawbacks that I found to the light, were the lid to the battery case is flimsy. The light it sometimes does not offer enough focusing, and also at times does not offer a wide enough scan. I bought the standard bulb, the halogen bulb would fix many of my light issues, but also cut battery time signifigantly. Overall it is a solid light.
