| lucypiggie's Full Review: Prescriptives Exact Matchstick Long Wear Foundatio... |
I'm going to get right to the point: I HATE this foundation and at $37 plus tax, so did my pocketbook!
The Claim
Long-Wear Foundation. Modern. Portable. Weightless cream powder formula glides on the most natural-looking medium coverage. Transfer-Resistant. Oil-Free. Natural Anti-Oxidants and SPF 15 protect the skin. To go.
My Experience
I bought Prescriptives Exact Matchstick Foundation for vacation usage. I liked that it had SPF 15 and it came in the signature Prescriptives metal, ribbed tube that is definitely easy to carry around and would pack easily.
I also wanted foundation that would hide blemishes (this was Pre-Accutane, when I was blotchy, red and bumpy...sexy, huh?) and this offered medium coverage that was supposedly "natural"-looking. The make-up lady also promised that it wouldn't transfer, which I liked. If you're on vacation, you don't have much time to run and fix up your make-up. You're usually spending your day walking around.
Extra bonus, the make-up lady said I wouldn't need concealer. The foundation stick doubled as foundation and concealer all rolled into one cool package.
So, I forked over more than $40 for foundation. The very first time I used it, the stick broke midway and landed in a splat on the bathroom linoleum. Now, that just grossed me out (what is supposed to be on my face had a roll on the bathroom floor??) and upset me (I was out $40). Although I'm super shy, losing $40 gave the courage to walk right into Saks (where I bought it), find the make-up lady who sold it to me, and demand I get a new one. She obliged, much to my relief. (The falling on the bathroom floor part really did the trick)
The Feel
It's a bit weird rubbing your face with a foundation stick. You have to make sure you blend well or you'll end up looking streaky. The foundation itself goes on smoothly. I'll give it that, but I was very aware that I had something on my skin. It felt heavy to me, the way pancake make-up feels heavy. It also felt oily, which surprised me since the product is supposed to be oil-free.
In areas where I needed heavier coverage, I had to layer it on, which is what the make-up lady told me to do, since it doubles as concealer.
Although I did have an oily skin problem (remember, this is pre-Accutane), the foundation seemed to make it worse. In an hour time, my face was shinier than the sun shining off a bald man's head. I would touch my face and get oil and foundation on my fingertips. What happened to transfer-resistant? Oh, and speaking of transfer resistant, I hugged a friend and got foundation on the shoulder of her white T-shirt. I was so mortified. I debated if I should tell her or just pretend I didn't see this little accident. I told her.
To make matters worse, the foundation started to look uneven at parts. It was so obvious I had slathered gunk on my face and there's nothing worse than looking like you have an inch worth of foundation on, which is what it looked and felt like!
There have been times since the vacation when I have gone to the Prescriptives counter inquiring about concealers. More than once, the make-up ladies have asked if I ever tried Exact Matchstick Foundation, because they think it is best as concealer. And, you know what, that should tell you something about the foundation. Concealer is thicker, more opaque. Concealer shouldn't be all over your face!
The foundation comes in 15 colors, broken into warm and cool tones, but you don't need to know that because you, my little darlings, will learn from my lesson and run like hell when you come face to face with this $40 cosmetic demon.
