| bops_mom's Full Review: Philosophy Apricots and Cream Lip Shine |
When Philosophy first posted on Twitter that they were releasing a new scent of Apricots and Cream it sounded perfect for me. Perfect! My skin can’t tolerate Philosophy’s 3-in-1’s so I knew I wouldn’t be purchasing that, but I couldn’t wait to get my hands on the lip shine. Since my local Macy’s Philosophy counter did not have it in stock I ordered it online and took advantage of a free shipping offer Philosophy.com was having.
Product Information
Philosophy’s Apricots and Cream Very Emollient Flavored Lip Shine is packaged in a clear plastic squeeze tube with twist off black cap. The tube holds 0.5 ounce of product and sells for around $12. All of this is typical of Philosophy’s Lip Shines.
My Experience
The first thing I noticed was that the color was different than I had expected. Online it looks to be a pale peachy shade but it isn’t. It’s more of a milky beige with lots of peach colored glitter. On my pigmented lips Philosophy’s Apricots and Cream Lip Shine goes on clear with golden shimmer/glitter. The glitter is not over the top but probably would be inappropriate for certain settings. This lip shine is pretty versatile in that you can easily wear it alone on a makeup free (or plain makeup) day or you can pair it with your favorite lipstick shade.
The second thing I noticed was the scent. I was honestly expecting Philosophy’s Apricots and Cream Lip Shine to have a much more tart fruity smell to it. I guess like dried apricots as opposed to super ripe fresh apricots. I’m not sure why I thought that – probably because I prefer the dried apricots to fresh. Anyway, Philosophy’s Apricots and Cream Lip Shine is not the least bit tart or sour. It’s a very sweet, fruity and creamy scent. If you’ve had a packet of Peaches ‘n Cream instant oatmeal for breakfast – the scent it much like that only instead of peaches this is definitely apricots.
I’ve found all of Philosophy’s Lip Shines to be very hydrating and that is one of the many reasons I love them. Philosophy’s Apricots and Cream Lip Shine is no different. This is, as Philosophy claims, a very emollient lip product. It can be rather thick if you apply too much but it is a smooth lip gloss – not heavy or sticky. Lately I have taken to using a Philosophy Lip Shine as my bedtime lip treatment. It’s that good of an effective lip moisturizer and you cannot beat the easy to use squeeze tube.
But all is not wonderful with me and my Philosophy Apricots and Cream Lip Shine. To be perfectly honest I do not like the scent. It makes me feel sick to my stomach. I’m still shocked at how much I cannot stand this scent especially when I thought it would be so perfect for me. All I can think of when I wear Philosophy’s Apricots and Cream Lip Shine which I find to be sickly sweet – is overly ripe and rotting, rancid apricots. I am pretty sure I will be in the minority on this one because if you check out the reviews on Philosophy’s web site – everyone else adores the smell. I just cannot stomach it.
And so
If like me you just know this will be an amazing scent for you – I recommend that unlike me you try it out before you purchase. Just in case, like me, it smells like rotting and rancid apricots to you. Otherwise, this product is a very moisturizing, easy to use lip shine with some seriously pretty shimmery gold glitter.
