As the "mom" of currently six cats, I have found that I needed a way to get it to where my furry feline friends could have regular access to fresh water and food.
I scoured the different pet stores and the many so called "super" stores and found one such way for them to have access in the Petmate Self Feeder. In particuliar I used mine for water mostly.
There are several available, most of which say "self feeder" and a couple that are 2.5 lbs. They vary in size and color and it can get confusing. The 2.5 lb feeder noted in the photograph above is, in fact, the one I used but there are several versions that look exactly like it. Mine is granite.
The Petmate Self Feeder itself is smaller so it's really best suited for either cats or small dogs like Chihuahua's or Poodles. They do have other similar types on the market for larger pets though.
The positive things I noticed about the Petmate Self Feeder was that it is reasonably priced. A good price is especially helpful since I have such a large family, humans included! I also noticed that I don't have to refill it for days which is quite nice! I also noticed that all the cats of the house didn't mind sharing it.
The one thing that worried me was that when I went to clean it I actually really couldn't. The water and food debris being in there had caused some type of mold to develop on the inside area of the "jug" near the hole and I haven't been able to reach in there to clean it. Boiling water helped but I think what I'll need to do is get a wire brush with a skinny stick attached to get in there, one that will bend easily. Another negative to this product is if you have animals in your home who tend to overeat than it definately wouldn't be for you. If you have small children in your home you'll want to be sure to place the Petmate Self Feeder in an area only accessable to your pet.
So while this product is excellent for food dispensary, hense our topic, the same brand and type is less than satisfactory for water dispensing.
