Maybe I'm getting too old, but I find these ultra-intimate, "charming," little restaurants to be tiresome. I know more people than I need to already; I don't feel like meeting the people sitting next to me. That said, I can understand those who like the ambience. It can get a little boisterous sometimes, particularly if four people who arrived together, don't get to sit together.
The food is generally good, but keep in mind that it's a very small restaurant and therefore the menu is usually very short. It's also appropriately seasonal, though sometimes things are missing that I might want to try: blue crabs, soft-shell craps, blue fish, etc. The salmon and like dishes are rather drab, but the fried oysters are fair to very good. I was disappointed by the steamers, as was a previous reviewer, plenty of them but a little on the grimy side.
The menu could use a few more vegetable and salad choices. The desserts are very good, particularly anything involving ice cream and caramel.
The service is spotty, at best. Go in with a casual, "oh whatever," attitude and you won't be disappointed. I know it's not the Four Seasons, but it's weird how often the server, in a restaurant that seats what, 20 people, doesn't notice that you've finished your first course or that you would like another glass of wine. The wine list needs work, too, by the way.
