MsHooterville's Full Review: Paul Mitchell Awapuhi Shampoo
I'm not extremely picky about shampoo, as long as it's appropriate for chemically dependent hair like mine. My hair is permed twice a year and color treated maybe every eight weeks, in case you wondered what I mean by "chemically dependent."
My daughter was blessed with natural blonde hair (I know how I get mine, I have no idea where hers came from) that has stayed blonde. It's also long and very straight. Until she reaches her goal of buying a house in the next couple of years, she and I still share a bathroom and there's only so much room for all of our beauty and grooming products.
We like going to Trade Secret to shop around for things both of us might use (they're always different) and then I go back to buy on Tuesday mornings before 11 to take advantage of double Style Club points and 20 percent off everything in the store.
One of the staff at the Trade Secret where I usually shop recommended the Awapuhi Shampoo and said most of the employees agreed it's a great product for everyone.
English Name for Awapuhi: Hawaiian Ginger
Awapuhi was new to me, but the bottle says it creates a lush lather, good for all hair types, moisturizes and removes dull buildup from other products.
Surfing online, I found more information about Awapuhi:
Hawaiians used the awapuhi rhizomes to scent their tapa. Medicinally it was used for bruises, cuts and sores; for headaches, toothaches, ringworm and other skin diseases, for achy joints, and for sprains.
But another note on the Paul Mitchell bottle "Makes a good body wash, too" was especially appealing. I could use up and throw out three or four large bottles of other stuff if this was true, and also could fill a travel-sized bottle for short trips and have a two-for-one useful product.
Lives Up to It's Claim
Without even noticing it at first, I've bought quite a few Paul Mitchell products and been consistently happy with most of them. I use Potion 9 after every shampoo, too, and Freeze and Shine spray.
The Awapuhi shampoo is clear, has a neutral scent, and lathers well on the first application. A second application lathers even more but won't dry out your hair.
It lathers just as well for a substitute for shaving gel and body wash. I've twice invested in the 32 oz. bottle, generally priced at $19.99 at Trade Secret without any discounts.
My daughter also is happy with it, although she still wants separate body washes and other products with specific purposes.
All-Around Good Product for the Family
Awapuhi Shampoo really is an excellent all-around product that should please anyone who doesn't need dandruff control or any other specialized shampoo. It's certainly good for small children because it's not harsh if it gets into the eyes.
Buy the big bottle, and throw out the bath gels and bars of soap. Also be sure to buy Paul Mitchell products from a licensed salon. One of the Trade Secret staff told me she sees fakes on the shelves at discount stores, and Trade Secret will let you return products that don't work for you.
