countrygyrl's Full Review: Pantene Pro V Extra Straight Conditioner, 1ea 12.6...
Pantene used to be my "go to " brand of conditioner. No matter what other brand I would experiment with or what brand of hair dye I would try a bottle of Pantene would always "fix" the damage. However, in recent years Pantene keeps "updating" ( ie. adding to and destroying) the formula and changing the names of the products.
Pantene Extra Straight conditioner is, at my best guess, what the original and well liked Smooth and Sleek has turned into. It has the same green accents on the bottle as the old Smooth and Sleek and the same bottle style. The bottle itself is made of a rather heavy weight white plastic. It sits on its flip-top lid making dispensing easy.
I purchased the smaller 12.5 oz. bottle at my local Giant grocery on clearance for $1.29. I bought all 5 bottles at that price. The regular price is some where around $4.00-$5.00 depending on where you get it. Pantene can be found pretty much everywhere. (I have found that drugstores are way overpriced on Pantene products.) The larger 25.4 oz. size can be found for around $6.00.-$7.00. Walmart also sells a huge "salon" size (32 oz. I think) for about $9.00 and is probably the cheapest place to get Pantene products on a regular basis. Pantene has a huge line of shampoos and conditioners and basically they are all the same formula with different names and colored accents on the bottle (read the labels!). Pantene. com shows you the full line of products (which is alot) and can also "prescribe" a hair care regime.
Extra Straight has the same traditional Pantene look, smell and feel as all the other Pantene conditioners. It is a creamy (although not as creamy as the old Pantene), white, fairly thick conditoner. It sticks to hair well and does not run or drip.
This new and improved Pantene version feels almost slimmy on my hair compared to the old version, it is also harder to rinse.
My hair feels very coated after using this, not silky or "protected" like the old Pantene.
Pantene claims they have this new "Aqua current technology" that helps hydrate hair better - actually all it is is a newer silicone, in very high doses- read the label. My hair doesn't like it. I have dry, fragile, split end prone , damaged hair that really likes silicones, but this new Pantene just doesn't leave my hair feeling as soft smooth or silky like it used to. I actually hate the way my hair feels till its dry. Once its dry its okay but no where near like the old Pantene- from now on if I want Pantene I will buy the generic version, all those I have seen (especially the Walmart Equate brand) have the old Pantene formula. Why Pantene, why did you go and ruin a good thing?
