| hlbirk's Full Review: Pampered Chef Baking Basics: Oven Mitt 1326 |
Let's face it, it's HOT! The weather has been extremely hot here in the Midwest and no one wants to cook. Wouldn't it be nice if we could at least "be cool" when we did turn the oven on? That's where Pampered Chef's Oven Mitt comes in focus!
Let me begin by saying that this Oven Mitt is a mere $10! You're thinking that sounds high? Trust me, it'll be the best $10 you've ever spent when it comes to your kitchen and safety using the stove/oven. Being 15" in length it not only protects your hands, but also your forearms!
The Oven Mitt is made of 100% cotton knit terry cloth with a natural cotton inner lining. The outer color is a soft beige color, which will easily match any decor. Why would matching decor be significant? Because the Oven Mitt also has a loop on it for hanging on a hook nearby. Normally my "pot holders" are all kept in a drawer, even the mitt style ones, but Pampered Chef's Oven Mitt is very thick and makes shoving it in my, already overflowing, drawer rather difficult. But it's all good because this is the first helper I reach for now! My neighbor likes to use it when she comes over...which is great because she's left-handed! That's right! This mitt will fit right and left handed individuals!
As with any pot holder or other oven mitts, this one is machine washable. Due to grease, fat and other foods that can sometimes take up residency on my Oven Mitt I always wash it separately. The use and care instructions are located on the inner cuff bias AND they're sewn in!
The only drawback, if it is one, is that the Oven Mitt is not made of flame retardant material. What that means is that if you accidentally touch the heating element of your oven it could light the Oven Mitt on fire. You should never use this mitt around an open flame or high heat source, such as an electric heating element, open flame or gas burner. In other words, don't take this one outside to use while grilling! Pampered Chef offers another type of mitt for that!
If you're looking for a great, well insulated oven mitt to help pull your piping hot pots or even stoneware from the oven, then I'd highly suggest trying Pampered Chef's Oven Mitt. The quilted stitching prevents shifting of the lining and that's something you'll see and feel the first time you try it on!
