| Donnie013's Full Review: Oxo 9" Stainless Steel Pizza Wheel (black) |
Very often, after a day of fishing, the last thing I feel like doing is cooking. More times than not, we opt for a pizza.
We have several Italian restaurants in the area and while theyre not the original NY pizza, theyre not bad.
The problem is that for whatever reason, and transportation from the restaurant to my home seems the only logical one, the pizza is never entirely sliced through.
I used to use a sharp knife but that made a mess so I decided to buy a pizza wheel. The problem was that I kept putting off the purchase. If Im not using something, I dont think about it. I remember when I go to reach for it and its not there. Anyway
A weekend arose where decided to visit my son and his family, who live in Coral Springs. He said there was a new pizza place in his area and ironically, the owner was from Long Island. If that wasnt weird, the owner ran a pizza parlor only two blocks from where we lived on Long Island. Small world! Anyway
It was at that time that I remember I wanted a pizza wheel. My sons wife, Donna, offered to take a ride with me to Linens n Things since she also needed a few items.
Thats where I found my OXO 9-inch Pizza Wheel - and finally made the purchase.
I wanted the OXO brand because I have other OXO products and Ive learned to trust the name.
First of all, I like the handle. To me, that is as important as the cutting tool. I need something that wont slip when I told it. According to the OXO website, the handle is made of SantopreneŽ - a black rubberized material - that insures a comfortable and non-slip grip.
On each side of the handle, youll find soft slotted impressions - this will assure you that your fingers wont slide as you slice your pie.
Another thing I like is the thumb rest. For those who need to place their thumbs on the top of a cutting tool for added pressure, this little feature is great. Especially that also keeps your fingers safe by being positioned directly between the circular blade and the handle.
The cutting blade is actually only 4-inch in diameter but its plenty big enough to slice through any pizza pie.
While the handle is straight, youll notice immediately beyond the thumb rest, the shaft that holds the blade is slightly angled. This is to place the wheel at the precise angle necessary for giving to perfect cuts without having your hands dipping into the hot sauce.
If OXO hasnt done enough with the design to this great tool, imagine now that you can just toss it in your dishwasher! It comes perfectly clean every time. And since its stainless, neither the water nor the heat will cause it to rust!
One more thing about this handy, dandy tool ~
Should you not have room in your kitchen utility drawer, there is a large enough hole in the handle so you can hang it on a peg our hook. Either way, it will always be in arms reach when you need it.
Now, youre probably wondering, If that tool is so great, it must have cost a small fortune. Well, youd be wrong. This cant-live-without tool, only cost me $9.95 (before tax). Not bad for something that will probably last long than the NY pizza guy (or me, for that matter).
Now, I must go and pack a lunch. Todays a fishing day and you know what were having for supper!
