| cosmogirl's Full Review: Opi Two Tones |
My first manicure
It all started when I went with my sister to get her nails done. I hadn't intended on doing my nails, but once I was there, I wanted to have pretty nails too. So I shelled out the $5 to get a french manicure. I loved the way it looked. But after the second day, the white nail tips were all chipped and scratched. I realized there was no way I'd be able to keep up my nails. So I went and searched for an at home alternative.
Stumbling across OPI
I was at the mall and my sister urged me to check out a store called Trade Secrets. I went in and I looked at the
different nail products they had. I stumbled across the OPI line and I immediately saw the Two Tones set. I read the back of the box and it was just what I had been looking for. The box even described the product as giving the perfect "french manicure look". I excitedly bought the set for $11 and couldn't wait to get home and try it.
What I got
For my $11, I was supposed to get 2 bottles of nail lacquer, instructions, and smile lines (to make the perfect nail tips). Unfortunately, I was missing the smile lines and ended up buying some cheap ones from Walmart. The 2 bottles of laquer I got were beautiful. The opaque (nail tips) shade was Swedish Nude and the sheer overlay color was Samoan Sand. At this point, I was ready to make my nails perfect!
My experience
After reading the instructions a few times, I applied the smile lines. I nervously painted above the smile lines with the Swedish Nude color. I waited approximately 15 minutes for the first coat to dry. Then as instructed, I applied a second coat. I couldn't believe how nice and white my tips now looked. I was already excited.
The second coat took awhile to fully dry. I waited about an hour for just my one hand to dry. I didn't want to risk ruining it after the time I put in. When I pulled off the smile lines, I had white nail tips. I was proud of my work. Then I had to do my other hand. I didn't run into any problems, but again, I had to wait about an hour for my nail tips to dry.
After I pulled the smile lines off my second hand, I waited an additional 10 minutes before applying the overlay shade. I just wanted to be sure my nails were dry. I started with my thumb on my left hand and applied the Samoan Sand laquer over my nails. I was so happy when I saw how nicely the colors went together. I painted all my nails and sat back and admired my work. I was so happy with it.
My tips and recommendations
*Read the instructions
If you are like me and have never done a french manicure by yourself, read the instructions. The instructions give you a step by step guide on how to do it perfectly. I know the instructions helped me a great deal.
*Wait for the tips to dry completely
In your excitement, it's easy to rush the process and want to pull the smile lines off before the tips are completely dry. But trust me, waiting the extra few minutes is worth it. Pulling the lines off early will cause you to have to do them again. In the end, that takes more time.
*Apply the overlay on thinly
The overlay color should be applied on thinly. The overlay should enhance the color of the tips, not overpower it. It takes some practice, but the end result is worth it.
Final thoughts
In the end, the OPI Two Tones is a good buy. I don't often have the time to do it, but when I do, I always feel proud of my work. This product comes with detailed instructions, high quality laquer, and is easy to do. It will leave you with beautiful looking nails. And you can say you actually did them yourself!
