When I switched from Sprint PCS to AT&T Wireless, this was the phone that I bought. I had previously used a different Nokia model that looks the same but doesn't have the flip cover with Voicestream Wireless, so I knew that Nokia phones were terrific and easy to use.
The Nokia operating system is simply the greatest. Microsoft should learn from Nokia about how to make something that it truly simple to use.
It only takes a couple key punches to turn your ringer off when you go to a meeting or a movie, and a couple more to turn it back on when you're ready to hear the ringer again. It has a ton of different rings to choose from so you'll always know it's your phone ringing and not someone else's.
It's easy to program new names into your phone list, and the Nokia puts them all in alphabetical order so you can scroll to the right name fast. You can also program your most important people so that you only have to hit a single button to dial them. In other words, hit the number 2 on your keypad and hold it down for a second and it will call your girlfriend. Number 3 to call home. Number 1 to check your voicemail.
If you use this phone with AT&T Wireless, you can also receive email (up to 250 characters long) in the form of an alphanumeric page. Your email address is yourphonenumber@mobile.att.net (where yourphonenumber is the actual numbers of your phone).
I used a Jabra headset with this phone (www.jabra.com), which I also recommend. You can also get a cool belt holster for it, which I also recommend. There are also plenty of aftermarket accessories for this phone, like antennas that light up during a call, vibrating batteries, etc. Try cellwest.com to look them all up.
This Nokia phone holds a signal well, and it stands up to heavy usage. The screen on mine could have been a little more scratch resistant, but it was still sufficient.
The flip keypad cover is great. When you flip it closed, it hangs up the call for you, which is cool. It also keeps the keys from getting accidentally punched when the phone is in your pocket. (You can also lock the keypad completely, but you don't need to with the cover.)
I was sad to have to switch from Nokia to Ericsson so I could get an AT&T phone that browsed the Internet. But I must admit that the new Ericsson phone that I purchased is absolutely amazing in both ease of use and how well it holds a signal. As soon as epinions lists that model, you'll see my comprehensive review. What a terrific phone!
Still, I'm looking forward to Nokia's next AT&T model that will browse the Internet. Nokia is a great company, so I'm sure they're going to come up with something that's very competitive with my new Ericsson phone.
Isn't technology cool?
