| chrisceb's Full Review: Neutrogena T Sal Therapeutic Shampoo |
All of a sudden I have a flaky scalp. Im pretty sure its not dandruff, as I dont have an oily scalp. But not only do I have a flaky scalp, sometimes my head itches like mad. When Id had enough, I went to Wal-Mart to check out their specialty shampoos specifically designed for treating symptoms of dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis and psoriasis.
The Product:
Neutrogena Maximum Strength T/Sal Therapeutic Shampoo is a dermatologist recommended brand of shampoo that helps relieve the symptoms of problematic scalps. On the box, it states T/Sal relieves symptoms of Psoriasis, Dandruff and Seborrheic Dermatitis and in big black letters surrounded by a yellow box it screams FIGHTS CRUSTY SCALP BUILD-UP. Um
ick! What in the heck is crusty scalp build-up? Whatever it is, I dont have it, and I dont want it. So if you do have it, pick some of this T/Sal up.
However, Neutrogena also claims T/Sal is Fragrance-Free, Color-Free and Preservative-Free. Use it three times a week for best results. Wet hair, massage a liberal amount of shampoo into your scalp and leave it on for several minutes and then rinse.
From the box: Neutrogena Maximum Strength T/Sal Shampoo is recommended by dermatologists to relieve itching and flaking associated with chronic scalp conditions such as psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis and even common dandruff. The active ingredient is clinically proven to break down crusty, flaky scalp build-up, and continues to work for hours even after shampoo is rinsed off. The clear conditioning formula provides maximum relief while leaving hair soft and manageable
Active Ingredient: 3% Salicylic Acid (BHA from here on out)
Inactive Ingredients: water, cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium c14-16 olefin sulfonate, lnioleamidopropyl pg-dimonium chloride phosphate, sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, polyquaternium-22, hexylene glycol, sodium citrate.
You can purchase T/Sal at almost any drugstore or discount store for about $5 for a 4.5 fl oz bottle.
My Experience:
I was really shocked when I opened the T/Sal box and pulled out a small (very small) bottle and the contents were light yellow yet clear. Id bought some of Neutrogenas other shampoos for flaky heads that have activated coal in them and the color of the shampoo was dark brown. I also was shocked when I took a whiff of the shampoo and didnt smell that disgusting activated coal scent. All I smelled with the faintest hint of BHA. Which, if youve ever used BHA on your face in treating acne, or using it as an exfoliant youll recognize the distinct smell.
Ive used 2% and 1% BHA in skincare items with a decent effect of exfoliation. I figured thats probably all my scalp needed to and thats why I chose this particular shampoo over the others.
The lather is amazing. The scent is just about non-existent. And one of the reasons I continue to use it is because it doesnt dry or strip my hair. My hair is completely manageable after I use T/Sal. Theres no funky smell to my hair, no stripping of natural oils or coloring of my hair. I do color treat my hair, and havent noticed any stripping of the color. I use it three times a week like Neutrogena recommends and Ive seen at least a 75% decrease in my flaking. I saw considerable results after three treatments. One week. I still do flake, but Im wondering if its my styling product vs. true flaky scalp. Be sure to leave it on the scalp for a few minutes while in the shower though, Ive found that really helps. I allow it to stay on for about five minutes.
I highly recommend Neutrogena Maximum Strength T/Sal Therapeutic Shampoo
