Promises vs. Reality
Promises
*Gentle oil free formula, hypo allergenic, fragrance free, PABA free, non comedogenic
*Enriched with special moisturizers for healthier looking skin.
Reality
*The sunblock is NOT "non comedogenic." I had tiny pimples after using this product. It has a thick consistency that is akin to a thick cream. So perhaps that's what caused the breakouts. I now use the "lotion" version of this sunblock, called: Neutrogena UVA/UVB Sunblock Lotion SPF30. With the lotion, I have not experienced any breakouts. Aside from my face, the sunblock (not the lotion) has not caused any problems. I think anyone can wear this sunblock comfortably, provided that it is not applied to the face (just in case for those who tend to breakout). PS: I have sensitive skin that tends to breakout.
*It does NOT have any fragrance added to the product. However, it has a slight fruity scent. It also has a tinge of peach as its colour.
*I don't know if my skin is getting moisturized, but my skin does feel well "protected" because of its thick consistency. After application, my skin feels like it has been well "coated." I have not used this product with makeup, but I don't think it would be a good idea. The product is just too thick to work with makeup. In terms of taking off the sunblock, use a loofa and soap.
*Except for my face, I apply this product to any area of the body that is exposed to the sun. Since it has a thick consistency, you have to keep on rubbing the product in till it disappears. Until then, you will have a white coat of "paint" on your skin. Once it's on, it will stay on all day. Even with heavy sweating, it will not "disappear."
According to a consumer report, you need to use about a bottle per person per week to get the benefits of a sunblock. In other words, you have to apply a very generous amount to ensure protection from harmful UV rays.
*Prevents burning. But I do tan gradually with this product.
Drawbacks
1)Cost
What I have noticed over the years is that, the size of bottles have become smaller, while the prices have steadily gone up. Since sunblocks area a necessity, I wish the government would regulate its price and bring the cost down.
2)Consistency
Since it has such a thick consistency, it's best not to get the product near any clothing. Otherwise, your clothes will feel as though it has gotten a good "coating" of the product as well. Because of this restriction, I find it to be an inconvenience when the temperature cools down and I need to wear a cardigan on top of my lovely "coated" arms!
