hempem's Full Review: Natural White 5 Minute Tooth Whitening System
Before Christmas, when my Crest Whitestrips Premium Plus were requested of Santa but had not yet arrived, I was hanging out at my local Walgreens store and noticed much to my DELIGHT, a $1.99 way to whiten my teeth. It was by Natural White, and called itself a 5 Minute Tooth Whitening System. It came in a clear plastic bag, with a .75 oz. tube of whitening gel, and a clear plastic mouth tray.
The main problem with this cheap way to whiten teeth? It just didn't whiten them. I know, because soon afterward when Santa brought me my Crest Whitestrips, I saw an immediate difference and alas, my $1.99 solution was exposed for what it truly was . . . no solution at all.
The mouth tray was interesting. In fact, I believe it could be called a tad bit dangerous, because if you aren't careful, you squeeze the gel on the top and bottom of the tray and bite down, but the tray holds the gel against your teeth AND gums since it is so tall. I don't want my gums exposed to any peroxide product and prefer the Crest Whitestrips because you can position the strips on your TEETH only, where they belong.
5 minutes didn't seem like enough time to me, so I decided to wear the mouth tray and solution for 30 minutes. You would think this would cause a problem, but it didn't. It made no difference at all. The teeth weren't sensitive from this prolonged exposure, they weren't any whiter, and the only result was that my jaw hurt from having to pull my lower jaw forward to stay in position in the tray. In fact, it hurt for a few days afterward. The jaw doesn't like to be messed with, and the muscles don't either.
Ingredients of the whitening gel are as follows, from the tube: Water, Glycerin, Carbomer 974P, Hydrogen Peroxide, Ammonium Hydroxide, Sodium Stannate
This product is guaranteed to work. So I could have taken it back, but for what? The cost of the gasoline to GET to Walgreens would be about the same as the $1.99 refund!
Here are some warnings I found from www.walgreens.com:
This product is not recommended for anyone under 18 years of age, or individuals with gum disease, gingivitis, bleeding or severe receding gums, tooth sensitivity, pregnant or nursing mothers.
As with any product, review of ingredients is recommended to avoid any allergic reaction.
Whitening gel works on natural human teeth only.
It will not harm fillings, crowns or caps.
Do not use while wearing dental braces.
Avoid prolonged contact or whitening gel with the gums.
Do not exceed recommended tray wear time. Use for periods of longer than 14 days should only be under the advice and supervision of a dentist.
If mild irritation occurs, reduce use to once a day.
If severe irritation occurs, discontinue use.
Now if I am being warned about receding gums, that concerns me. At age 39, I don't want a product that will make my already receding gums worse, and I believe Crest Whitestrips is a much safer option. I believe this Natural White 5 Minute Tooth Whitening System may help in causing gums to recede, and I don't like that one bit.

I trust Crest Whitestrips or other more expensive tooth whitening systems over this product. Crest is recommended by dentists, but the faint gray official-looking seal on the front of Natural White just says, "Quality Oral Care" - no endorsements at all. You get what you pay for, and the results were not even noticeable for me, with the mouth tray giving me some jaw pain and I cannot recommend it. I wish I could! It would sure have been a great, inexpensive way to whiten teeth.
