betsy's Full Review: MSR Whisperlite Shaker Jet Backpacking Stove
I have had my MSR WhisperLite stove for 5 years, and I love it. It is very light weight and takes up relatively little space in a pack. It is sturdy as well. In five years it has never failed me. One reason for this is that the stove is easy to repair. It comes with maintenance and repair/troubleshooting instructions that will allow you to deal with most of the minor problems any stove will have. This is a big plus if you plan to use the stove a lot or plan to take it on extended pack trips. The stove performs well in all weather conditions.
The stove generally has a consistent and strong flame that will boil water relatively quickly. On the other hand, it can be difficult to maintain a lower flame. This means that food that requires a lower heat will need to be supervised or it may be burned. The WhisperLite is pretty efficient which will save space and weight by requiring you to bring less fuel in your pack. It does require some assembly each time you use it and there are two or three steps to light it.
I have recommended this stove to several people who have been equally as pleased with it. I have used many different stoves over the years and this one has been my favorite because of its size, weight, strength, efficiency and ease of repair.
