| justpaul's Full Review: Mountain Hardware Gore Windstopper Vest |
Bought this vest 18 months ago, so I've gotten to wear it through two falls, one full winter, and one spring. It has taken me snowboarding, hiking, shopping around town, and was my only "jacket" for two full weeks in Portugal in November 2002.
First and foremost, the Windstopper fleece works wonderfully. When I bought this vest, I wasn't that concerned with this feature, but given it's reputation I put it to the test in a 30 mile per hour wind on a 20 degree day. I don't know how they do it in such a light garment, but wind simply does not get through this thing. Even more impressive, sweat and heat from your body does. This thing truly breathes.
From a functional standpoint, this is one well built vest. Two handwarmer pockets, one outside chest pocket and one inside chest pocket, all with zippers, plus a stand up collar. This vest has become a standard part of my traveling wardrobe, as it has enough space to hold tickets, wallet, passport, and camera comfortably. It even looks good in the royal blue I bought.
Price can be an issue, but since I play hard, I'm willing to buy gear that lasts, especially when it has a lifetime guarantee (as this does). I picked mine up in the middle of the summer at a clearance sale for $70, but anyone sweating the price should check out SierraTradingPost.com. They often have these and other top-quality brands at big discounts.
