| Freak369's Full Review: Milton Bradley 100 Piece Aisha Princess Puzzle |
When Annabelle convinced me to let her make her own account at the Neopets website I didnt think that she would do all that much there. Maybe play a couple of games, try out some quests or try her hand at the Trading Post but not much more than that. Proving that kids are smarter than you think, shes done a lot more than that at the site. She has a size 14 shop, stocks it almost every day, collects her interest at the bank and plays with her pets. Thats a hell of a lot of responsibility for a kid to have. She started collecting Aisha related things when she got bored with the Uni items; thankfully the NeoTeam allowed people to have a gallery set up so she has things from both species on display. Thats one of the only reasons why I wanted to get this puzzle, so she could build it, slap some masking tape on the back of it and put it up on her wall in her room. I never expected her to go for the Aisha species but she did, theyre a little too cute for my taste. Gimme a Grundo or Shoyru and Im a happy camper.
Milton Bradley Neopet 100 Piece Aisha Princess Puzzle
Suggested for kids ages five and older, this one hundred piece puzzle measures 10 x 13 when completed and features a Royal or Princess Aisha. I think this was released around the same time that the Meridell world was released at the website because it definitely fits in with the theme of that area of the site. Her cloak is the most colorful thing in the puzzle so if you are having trouble building this, that is a great place to start once you have built the border on the edges. This isnt all that hard to build but younger kids might have some trouble because of the dead spots in the background. The Blumaroo Lab Ray and Scorchio Scientist puzzles both had a lot of cool things in the picture so if you got stuck you could compare the section you were working on with the box. The one thing that really irked me about this series is that there wasnt an image sheet inside the box so you had to have the box on hand to work from.
Like almost all Milton Bradley puzzles, this one is top notch. The pieces fit together perfectly and theres no buckling or puckering around the edges of the pieces. Ultimately I want to try and find a frame large enough so that I can have all four puzzles mounted and hung on the wall; not an easy thing because I need something thats big enough for all four plus a few inches around each of them for the matte. The detail on the image is nice but I wish that there were some stained glass windows or something interesting in the background; there is a large wooden gate or drawbridge but on the left side of the puzzle its just dead space. One thing that is missing from this is the A collar that you see on almost all the Aishas. I didnt pick up on this when I was working on this with her, she was the one who pointed it out to me. Maybe its covered up by her hand / paw, maybe once they turn royal they lose it, maybe they just forgot it. This is a nice looking puzzle once its built but you arent going to sit there and be engrossed with it.
Price & Availability
As I mentioned in other reviews of this puzzle series, these were originally sold for prices ranging from $2.99 to $4.99. I passed on buying them when I saw them at K-Mart for $4.99 thinking that they would be around for a while and I would have plenty of time to get them. That wasnt exactly what happened; most of the stores that were selling them for less than $4.99 sold out of them and I had to end up buying them from a seller at eBay for $20.00 [including shipping]. On one hand it was nice to get all of them from one person but it did suck to have to pay so much for something that I could have had for less if I hadnt dragged my feet when they were originally out. They are worth it if you are a Neopet addict or someone that has to have everything with the NeoName on it. There are some sites that claim they still have this in stock but when you go to buy one of them you get an error message or a lead in page to Amazon.com that tells you that it is no longer stocked but asks you if you want to buy a used product. Ill pass on the used ones, you never know if pieces are going to be missing or what came in contact with them when they were out of the box.
The Bottom Line
If you are a Neopet fan or like Aishas then this might be something worth looking for. I wanted to get the whole series and still kick myself for not scouting around when they were still being sold at places like Wal-Mart and Target. When completed it is a totally flat puzzle; some puzzles that are made for kids arent of the best quality and have wavy spots but not this one. The backs of the pieces are standard cardboard so you can use puzzle glue or masking tape on them. If you are looking for a way to keep the puzzle together but not on a permanent basis, masking tape is the way to go because you can peel it off easily without it removing any of the backing. While I may have complained about the suggested retail price of $4.99 when they were being sold at K-Mart, I didnt have much of a choice if I wanted to get all four puzzles. Hopefully the new series will be out soon and will be on the market [and shelves] longer than these were.
As always, thanks for the read!
