Pros: Cool settings, IT VIBRATES! clear sound at certain ranges
Cons: Not good reception of weather station in my area, range less than 18 miles.
The Bottom Line: If you want a cool pair of radios buy these but not if you really want range. they don't work very well over far distances.

| shmoman's Full Review: Midland GXT600VP4 (14 Channels) Two Way Radio |
I love radios. I think that it is the coolest thing in the world that you can talk to people far away, for free!
The Midland GXT600 two way radios are very excellent radios. I used these radios just the other day when a friend of mine and I were taking two girls to a college dance. We were planning a dinner for our dates and neither of us had cell phones. These radios did a great job of letting us communicate around campus and between our houses for our date. Well not to tell to long of a story but the date went amazingly, we had steak.... anyway!
The features of this radio are as follows and I will describe them as I tell them:
1. 22 GMRS/FRS Channel: 22 channels make it so that you can talk and chances are other people won't be using the same channel as you.
2. 38 privacy codes: another nice feature makes it so that you can talk and have even more privacy.
3. eVOX: this is cool. When you turn this on and when you make a noise close to the mic it automatically starts to transmit a signal. It works much better if have a mic with a cord that you plug into the radio.
4. 5 selectable call tones: I really don't see the need for these but they all sound nice.
5. Weather (WX) Band Receiver: I found this to be cool as well when you hold the menu button it turns on the weather station, and the radio starts to receive the current weather. At my location the reception of this channel isn't very good which is a little annoying if I want to get a weather alert.
6. Vibrate alert: This is cool. When you turn this setting on the radio vibrates when you receive a "call" from another radio. it VIBRATES! like a cell phone! I think that is awesome.
7. SCAN Function: When you push the Scan button the radio starts to scan all 22 channels for activity. When it finds a station with activity on it, it plays the transmission for 5 sec. unless you push the transmition button then it will stop on the channel.
8. Monitor Function: This function plays a loud sound that is really annoying but it makes it so that you can hear when somebody makes a transmition.
9. Roger Beep: with this feature activated when you stop transmitting a signal the radio makes a little "beep" to let people know that you have stopped transmitting.
10. Silent Operation: This feature makes it so that you can push the operation buttons and not have the radio beep at you. this is very nice when you are using your radio in a crowd so you don't disturb people.
11. Key Pad Lock: this locks the key pad so that you don't accidentally change any of your settings.
12. Power settings: High, Medium, Low. This feature makes it so that when you arent transmitting a long distance you can turn down the power setting and save battery.
13. Speaker/Microphone Jacks: this is nice if you have a microphone or headphones that you can plug into these jacks then you can talk and nobody can hear what is being said to you and you can talk without the radio being put up to your face.
14. Battery Low Indicator: this just tells you when to change the battery which is nice cause then you radio doesn't just die and leave you hanging. These radios use four AA batteries which last for about 12 hours of regular use.
these radios are great. I love them except for one thing. on the box it says that they should transmit 18 miles, but I don't think that they really transmit that far. I have had a couple of experiences where I went to Wal-Mart and took one radio with me and left one at home and tried to use them. I know that Wal-Mart is not 19 miles away from my house; it might be 1 mile so I am a little disappointed about the range. Other than that I think these radios are great.
I got these radios at Best Buy for $69.99 but I've seen them at Smith Market Place and Media Play for about the same price.
