| hogfish's Full Review: Maytag MDB8600AW Jetclean II 24 in. Built-in Dishw... |
All the nonsense that we were sold about Maytag reliability, etc is just that -- nonsense.
We bought this wonderful Klunker about 2 years ago when we remodeled our kitchen at the suggestion of a Home Depot sales person because I didn't know much about them. Although we researched Maytag and I believe this machine specifically in consumer reports, we did not get any bad info. about it, probably because it was a new model then. (We also bought a kitchen full of GE Profile appliances and I have nothing but good to say about them).
Our Saga Part I (It doesn't clean!!!)
It was installed by a professional and seemed to be working fine, i.e., not leaking, but it did and does not clean dishes well. In fact, it is worse than the ancient machine we replaced. Food is stuck to the dishes, chocolate milk residue does not come off, etc. Basically, you have to wash the dishes before you stick it in the washer and even then its not great. Of course we called and they said "too hard of water," "too much rinse aid," "the wrong type of detergent," etc. Let's face it, it is very poor at cleaning dishes, and this was before it started leaking.
Our Saga Part II (It doesn't clean.....and IT LEAKS!!!)
Ok we adjusted to washing the dishes before we washed the dishes in the washer and it was still pretty quiet which was one of our requirements, THEN I noticed water leaking out from underneath!!! It was leaking from the overflow hole and float in the pan that all dishwashers have. Of course we called, they came out and charged $130 that was later refunded after we convinced them that technically the warranty was still in force because we didn't install it until months after we bought it. Ok so it was an adjustment and that will be that, right?? NOOOOOoooooo, within a couple months it started leaking again. Of course we called, this time our warranty was out, so we waited a month or so until we could get the extended warranty and then we called. They have now been out a total of 5 times. We use too much detergent, too much jet clean, the wrong soap and they have replaced all kinds of stuff under there and guess what, it still leaks, albeit less than before. BUT because it continues to leak I feel compelled to keep the sound proofing front panel off of the bottom of the klunker so we can keep tabs on the leak, SOOOOooooo now it is noisier than our ancient washer, oh and did I say IT LEAKS.
Our Saga Part III (It doesn't clean...and IT LEAKS, the Maytag repairmen are busy, they don't know what they are doing and the extended warranty will not cover replacement as they try to convince you!!)
Must I continue with this??? It doesn't clean, it STILL LEAKS after 5 visits from repair men and I have waited for very long periods of time to get people to talk to on the phone. Also, don't be fooled by the extended warranty BS, where they say if you have 3 or 4 calls (I can't recall which) for the same defective part, they will replace the machine. Closing in on the 4th call, I knew I had them and I would get a new machine, I was ecstatic that I would win the battle over the dark side of the Maytag Empire. And, at the peak of my excitement, at the moment I was to have proof of my 4th call for the same part -- I was told to read the fine print. They replace your machine only up to their costs. So with 4 or 5 calls for service, their costs would have been more than the replacement cost, so I probably owed them, and of course it is at their discretion.
Our Saga Part IV (Drag this thing out on the street!)
To end this tale of woe, we will be dragging this piece garbage out to the street and then to feel better I will borrow a sledge hammer from a neighbor and smash it to bits!!
I am not sure, have I made my point yet??
