| naphtalia's Full Review: Mattel Magic 8 Ball Novelty Toy |
I remember the Magic 8 Ball as a toy from my childhood. It's a classic. It looks like the classic 8-ball for playing pool, but is larger and has a small flat bottom with a window in it. It operates like a crystal ball.
This is a toy that answers any yes or no questions a person may ask of it One simply asks the Magic 8 ball a question such as, "Will I ever be Miss America?" or "Will I meet my true love?" or "Will Mom make roast beef for dinner tonight?" Then give the Magic 8 ball a shake and turn it over. In the bottom of the toy is a window. Inside is a multisided die that floats in the liquid within. The answer to your question will rise into the window. Answers include "ask again later," "Yes," "It is decidedly so," "It is certain," and "Without a doubt." . If you don't like the answer you get, you can always try for a different one.
The Magic 8 Ball comes with a blue stand with 8 sides. This is a fun object to have on one's desk if there is space. It's not the sort of thing you're going to toss around. I know at least one person who uses his 8-ball instead of flipping a coin when he's feeling ambivalent and needs a quick decision. He says that there are times he turns the ball over and knows what answer he wants to see before it appears in the window. If that happens, he goes with his gut instinct. Otherwise, he just takes the 8-ball's advice. Now that is really getting oneself behind the 8-ball. I don't think I would take the 8-ball's advice to heart at that level.
I recommend the 8-ball for children, children at heart and executives.
