The concept is great, better idea than licking envelopes or those new fancy expensive (as unrefillable) lick-sticks. Who would not want a device that claims to lick envelopes without paper cuts or complaints, and then seals them all in one swoop.
The device is supposed to moisten the glue strip inside the paper flap of a standard envelope and then squeeze the flap and envelope together making a seal. Simply, two steps in one. It does save a lot of time, conceptually, but in practice...
Unfortunately, this product fails in two fundamental ways. First, it does not apply moisture evenly. Sometimes too much and your envelope is wet, sometimes too little, and your glue doesn't stick. Sometimes, of course, it works adequately. The larger issue was wet envelopes which in two instances got the letter within wet and it needed to be reprinted (worse as we use inkjet, so it ran).
Second, often envelopes are sometimes damaged going through the device. Some of the envelopes seemed to catch an edge and tear along the fold, or just a piece of the front end. Enough that the envelope had to be replaced and started over.
Another issue, but not a fundamental flaw; the device is not heavy enough to counteract its own inertia from use, and it can migrate across the surface.
I suspect that the moistening method accounts for a wide range of envelope shapes and glue positions, so it provides more space to moisten than may be required for many envelopes. Consequently, the paper gets wet along with the glue and causes some of the problems we experienced. It may be possible to find a suitable envelope size and shape that works well with this device. Not possible for us as we have a large supply of pre-printed envelopes.
The product was returned for a full refund - luckily our office supplier has such a policy. I would not suggest anyone waste their time trying this product unless they could return it.
