That's right folks watch out for this one. This little tiller chews dirt up and spits it out. The first time I saw one of these was when I borrowed one to do a little light tilling at my girlfriend's house. That one had been used so much that you couldn't read the name on it. I thought then that it was a little odd looking with that 2 cycle engine raised up. When I cranked this little rascal and put it in the dirt was I impressed. It did exactly as I said, chewed and spit, didn't miss a stroke just chewed and spit.
A few months later I happened to be at a friends home when a package arrived and he wanted me to help him assemble the item. Now mind you, neither one of us are of a great mechanical mind, but I figured what the heck we've got the instructions in case we actually need them. In no time we had this little twenty pound tiller together. That was when I realized what I had borrowed earlier. Being already an "expert" I proceeded to show my friends just how to use this little critter. After an awesome display we sat down and I read the instructions (a man thing.) I found that it was not only a tiller, but cultivates and edges (I wondered what that blade and wheel was all about.)
Now, this also came with an instructional video, so I just had to show my girlfriend the other things this little beast could accomplish. As I sat and watched her face during that video I knew it, I would soon have access to one myself because she was sold. Her order was placed that day. When it arrived a few days later I assembled it in no time (after all I was the expert.) We tilled and cultivated places that really didn't need it with the greatest of ease. We changed the tines from four to two to get into the tight places and then decided to try the edger. That was a little let down. You really have to stay with the Mantis when edging, or you will cut a gap where it doesn't need one. It's a little difficult to handle and doesn't manicure as well as the gas and electric edgers specifically designed for edging.
Remember that girlfriend I spoke of earlier? Well, I married her, so I have the Mantis all the time now. I have to say that this little creature does one heck of a job and I have recommended it to friends and will do so again. I only wished this tiller had been around when Granddad was alive because he might have sold that old mule...No, I guess he wouldn't have, he loved that mule, but the Mantis is cheaper to feed.
