bossman52's Full Review: Adobe Dreamweaver 4.0 Full Version for PC (DWW40D0...
I am a professional web designer. My website Lynergy.com was built almost solely with Dreamweaver 4.0 and Notepad.
Dreamweaver is everything that anyone could ask for in Web Design software. Dreamweaver 3.0 was an excellent work, and I honestly did not think it could be improved much, but I was wrong. Way wrong.
Dreamweaver 4.0 has more options and customization along with it's powerful new features. I personally hate software upgrades that a very little, but have a new marketting scheme. Companies upgrade their software just to give you more bugs, so they can charge you more, but not in this case.
Macromedia did not bother to release 18 different versions of it's software. It put together a great package and released all of the new features and bug fixes together.
If you haven't read reviews on DreamWeaver 3.0, then you might need to know about some of the "standard" features of a good web design software.
Code Coloring
If your software doesn't have code coloring, you shold not be using it. Code Coloring makes my life so much easier. My code is readable! And both 3.0 and 4.0 do this well. And allow you to customize what colors you want to use.
WYSIWIG View
We have all heard this word, although you may not have heard it in a while. Dreamweaver 4.0 and 3.0 have a good viewer, but I will admit they are not COMPLETELY accurate for Netscape and Dreamweaver. The spacing is sometimes off, but this is very minor.
Code Checking
The code checking is so good on DreamWeaver. It makes sure that you are coding everything properly. This insures that you will not look at your site and go, "What is wrong?!?" But one bad thing about Dreamweaver.. in fact the only bad thing I can really find, is that you can't shut off the Highlighting. It says you can, but it does not work! And when it highlights the HTML it also highlights it in WYSIWYG view pushing your tables all over the place and things like that.
Split Screen
Among other things, the new split screen is AWESOME! 3.0 had so many good things, but one thing that people complained about was it's lack of focus on code editing. Well, this is much more geared towards users like me who are what's called "code poets." We hate programs that "touch-up" our code with it's own ideas of how HTML should be written. DreamWeaver edits code very little, and you can shut it all off!
You can change just about any of the ideosecrecies that DreamWeaver has. You can fit it to your personality.
The code cleaner is also very good. It doesn't add anything, it just spaces things out and cleans stuff up for you. Simple and effective. There is nothing I hate more than tabbing over 100 times to insure that I can read it later, it's just bad productivity.
Dreamweaver 4.0 has excellent Integrated Site Management Tools. I have used everything from HomeSite to Adobe GoLive! and not one has had FTP/Management software that was flexible enough for my needs. Dreamweaver smokes them with it's site management tools.
One of my favorite things about it's site manager is the Resource Viewer. You can see every image, color, and Java App, fonts, and more.
On top of that it also has a great site map viewer. It shows where each and every html document and where it is linked.
These features make it very easy to use. It makes life much easier in many respects. This software is by far this Web Designers Choice!
