For a "health" bar...these taste suspiciously good. Based on a glowing review from a friend, I bit the bullet and ordered a box of Luna Bars from Webvan. Having seen them on the shelves and heard the radio commercials, I admit, I was curious. Now having tasted them...I can never go back.
Stuff to know
• 180 Calories
• Soy Protein (Important for those with dairy issues)
• 10 Grams of Protein
• 4.5 Grams of Fat
• 24 Grams of Carbs
Ok, so it's a lot of carbs. For those of you on high protein diets, this may not be the bar for you. It's equivalent to 2 small pieces of wheat toast.
Taste
It really tastes like a treat. I mean, not something I have to force myself to eat. Normally, I eat a Balance bar at my desk when I don't have time for lunch. They taste ok and have good nutrition. Now that I've got Luna bars at my desk, I actually have to refrain from eating it like a candy bar. This may be a downside for those with poor willpower.
I love the Nutz over Chocolate flavor. It tastes like a peanut butter rice crispy treat half covered with chocolate. Chai Tea flavor isn't bad either, but I'm so enamored of Nutz over Chocolate that I haven't made it to the other flavors yet!
Strong enough for a woman?
Geared towards women, these "chick" Clif Luna bars certainly capitalize on the moon goddess-like images created from the name. On the wrapper, you will find silhouettes of athletically built women cavorting in the moonlight.
Fear not, men can eat them too. In fact, Epinions founder Lou Montulli (one of People Magazine's sexiest men of 1999), is also a big fan of Nutz over Chocolate too. I caught him eyeballing my box while we were in the elevator last week.
Bottom Line
At slightly over $1 per bar, these are tasty and fulfilling enough to stave off afternoon hunger. While the Balance bars also had enough fat (6 grams) to keep me full for the afternoon, these taste way better! I keep a box in the drawer and they've been a great alternative to the Doritos in the snackroom.
