Do you ever want to see a woman go mad?? Take away her refrigerator after a big frozen grocery sale, as her savings begin to melt, and her ice cold diet coke cans start to warm!!!! That is a living nightmare, my friends.
OK. We bought a brand new fridge last year, that we were still paying on from a local warehouse distributor. I loved that fridge, it had been a replacement for the one we had for about 5 years! Well, for some unknown reason (maybe my husband turning down the thermostat and me constantly turning it back up), the engine just died, stopped making noise, and within a few hours we noticed that it had broken down, and everything was melting!!
It was in the evening, I remember, because the store was closed, and we had to run out to Walmart and buy two mini fridges and a small freezer to preserve the must-haves. One of my small fridges is actually a pop holder, if you want to know how important those are to me....The rest we had to put in our camping coolers with some ice...We thought it would be easy to go in there, with the warranty and have it fixed that day. Wrong. We were told it could take up to three weeks, so we got tough, and said "Listen here..." and he ended up refunding us our already 'paid into' account, in cash and offered to give us 10% off our next purchase.
We ended up buying one online, actually, that offered free shipping. I looked around and found one with a bottom freezer and stainless steel finish. The LG LFC22740 S Side by Side Bottom Freezer French Door is sharp, elegant, beautiful, spacious and in style! I have never had a bottom freezer before, and I must say, it takes some time to get used to. I am used to my other fridge, but it is easy for my youngest son now to get his "chicken nuggets" out for dinner, another self help skill that he has gained since we bought this!
This is a monster of an appliance, and is to be respected! It stands a grandiose 69" inches tall, 33" wide, and 35" deep. The "french" doors open up in the middle, one going to the left, the other to the right, with 4 spill free split shelves that area very easy to clean. The light is bright, and there is a lot of room for fresh veggies and condiments with the 5 clear baskets that are about the size of a gallon or so. Those are easily in reach.
The capacity is about 15 cubic feet, with the freezer coming in about 7 cubic feet. There are two crispers and a deli pull out drawer. There is a can dispenser, but no water dispenser. The temperature is digitally controlled and is perfect. The doors are very strong, with powerful suction that it takes a few pulls to open it if you are used to a weaker door! The handle are very long, strong and vertical and are in the middle of the fridge as opposed to on the side like a standard fridge. It takes some getting used to!
YOU'VE TOLD ME ABOUT THE FRIDGE, NOW WHAT ABOUT THE FREEZER????
The freezer. The main reason I chose this out of all the others I researched. I love this modern look. I am sure in a few years the fad will have worn off, and I will be tired of bending down and kneeling on the floor, but right now, everyone who comes over LOVES it. SO, for more reason than one, so do I!!
It is very large, and fits everything better than my last fridge did! It has an ice maker, the defrost is automatic, it keeps everything frozen without freezer burn, and slides in and out with no problems whatsoever. There is a wire basket for easy category storing. The long, strong handle is horizontal, is clash with the french doors that are vertical. It is really pleasing to the eye because of the contrast!
This fridge has it all! With it's energy star rating for it's savings, the 15 amps and 120 volts of power, the reliability of it...It is easy to hook up, just make sure you have at least a 33" or more opening, and not next to a wall because of the french contour doors. It has air cooling that flows from all directions, with vents on every level so you really feel it whenever you open the doors! It is actually good enough to have in a commercial setting! The seal on the door has an anti-bacterial seal to protect it from spills and other bacteria that fridges seem to collect! Which I love, being the germophobe that I am!!
I thought it was bad luck when my fridge gave out on me. I have so many problems with appliances and such. I was grateful to find something so large, stylish and functioning for near the same price as my other that was refunded. Everything is easy to see, and easy to reach for. I don't have to stand on my tip toes anymore to get things in and out of the freezer.
If you are shopping for a fridge, or wonder if a bottom freezer is an acquired taste, I can tell you, they look much better in person, and if you can handle bending and stretching down, this is a good pick!!
