When I first got my own place, I had my sights set on a good "ice crushing" blender. Unfortunately for me, all those that met my excellence criteria were also way out of my price range. Until one day when a friend and I walked into a store with this blender on display for an amazing low price.
We eventually found out that the display was a mistake, but we got the blender at the mistaken price (my friend bought it for me for a housewarming gift) anyway, for good customer service rep! (Woo Hoo, I love customer service know hows!) As soon as we got home I broke it out and read all the appropriate info.
This blender will meet almost any need you might have. I regularly use it to make shakes (with milk, ice, coffee, flavor, etc.). It does really well with anything frozen (leaving almost no chunks, I can even use a straw with out it clogging up!) I've also used it to make pesto. It chops right through the many leaves i fill it with, as well as the nuts. Since this was one of my first kitchen appliances, I also used it as a mixer: making things like cheese cakes, and quiche with it.
Best of all, it is made with real glass, so it cleans beautifully, and it can stand up well to a full load. It also comes apart well at the bottom for better cleaning (that especially comes in handy for getting out all the thick stuff, like pesto, that might be hard to reach otherwise).
With 14 different settings, visible measuring marks and a sturdy lid I have no complaints about this machine.
