| ahoult's Full Review: Kordon NovAqua Tap Water Conditioner and Fish Prot... |
We are a family who has joined the Betta craze and naturally have researched websites on the best care. When we surfed on over to BettaTalk.com and found that the water conditioner of choice for Bettas was Novaqua, we decided to go on someone else's experience. We're glad that we did.
Novaqua and Aquamel, both products by the same company, work excellent for our bettas. Though we do not own any other freshwater fish, I'm sure that it would work well for others too (you might want to check websites on your type of fish first to be certain).
Novaqua removes chlorine, chloramines and heavy metals from tap water to make it safe for freshwater fish. It also helps provide a protective "slime" coating on the fish, which helps reduce stress. The dosage is 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons of water. If you can buy it in the two-pack with the Amquel I highly suggest you do. The Amquel removes ammonia (fish do go "potty" in their water!) so it's best to use these products together when making water changes--partial or full. Amquel dosage is also 1 teaspoon per 10 gallons. If you have a 5 gallon tank, just halve it (1/2 teaspoon); 2.5 gallon tank (1/4 teaspoon). If using one gallon jugs or jars, we use 7 drops of each to treat tap water and let it age (set) for 24 hours. Of course you should check the pH before you add the new water to your tank or bowl so fishy doesn't die from pH shock.
