| jessicarbt's Full Review: Kong ZoomGroom Rubber Brush |
I decided to purchase the Cat Zoom and Groom after seeing it on sale at Petco. It looked like a very good grooming tool for my foster rabbits. After paying the $4 for it, and bringing it home to try, I went back and purchased 6 more! (I'll explain)
I tried it on the rabbits, WOW! The shedding fur came out like a dream. No other brush I have tried worked as well. It's soft enough so that it won't tear their skin, it has a massaging feel to it so even the shy rabbits relaxed into it, it's comfortable to hold so grooming 12 rabbits, one right after the other didn't kill my right hand. (it has arthritis and some brushes cause it to cramp up if I use them for more than 10 minutes)
I tried it on my cats and they loved it also, they will sit for half an hour each while we groom them, without pulling. (since they are long haired, they really shed so they need daily brushing) It's a bonus that they enjoy it, there is nothing worse than having a cat turn around and bite you halfway through! One of my cats is pretty testy, but she didn't even argue over the Zoom and Groom.
Better than slicker brushes which can tear rabbit skin, better than combs that can also tear skin (but are needed for tangles), better than "soft hair brushes" because Zoom and Groom actually pulls out the fur, it doesn't just glide over the top. It's easy to clean, and it's easy to sanitize. (big thing with me, I don't want to pass germs from one rabbit to the next even though I do not have rabbits with communicable diseases, it's better to be safe than sorry)
Why did I buy 6 more? Because, I needed one for the cats, and another for the rabbit grooming box. I also needed the other 5 to give away in "going to my forever home" bags that I send home with adopted rabbits so that the new owners would have a new way to "bond" with their new pet. It's amazing but the Zoom and Groom actually helped me re-socialize two very terrified rabbits in just a month. I had been working with these two rabbits for 6 months each, and taking baby steps. The Zoom and Groom gave them a reason to WANT my hands in their cages, touching them. From there, it was a short step to petting. The massaging action of the Zoom and Groom really helped. (those two went to their new homes a month after the Zoom and Groom was purchased and their owners report that they are becoming friendly in leaps and bounds)
Zoom and Groom, it's the greatest, I recommend it to everyone who has a rabbit or a cat. The only downfall is that it does make mountains of fur while you are brushing, so put a towel across your lap or be prepared to change clothes afterwards.
