Disappointment

I thought "KitchenAid, for the way it's made." But I was terribly disappointed by this can opener. First of all, after getting it home, I noticed that it can't be put in the dishwasher or be immersed. It must be cleaned with a damp cloth.
The first time I used it, it didn't really bite into the can. The wheels turned and everything, but the can wouldn't grab on and turn. The portions of the lid that it did cut, were cut with relative ease. But there were several sections of the lid where it didn't cut through all of the way. I thought that maybe I just wasn't squeezing hard enough, so I would pay more attention the next time.
The last time I used it, I had the same experience. I made sure that I was squeezing it shut completely. It pierced the lid of the can, but just wouldn't get going around the lip of the can. And on smaller cans, it had a really hard time. The small can of tomato sauce I was trying to open slipped from the can opener and spilled onto the counter.
