The Bottom Line: I didn't like the looks of the ingredients and it left build-up in my hair. This product did not protect my hair either. Not a good choice.
42ENGLISH's Full Review: Joico Silk Result Instant Smoother
Joico has a few different lines of hair products, mainly used in professional salons. Joico Silk Result Instant Smoother is one of four products used for straight hair to clean, condition, straighten, eliminate flyaways and restore shine. I wasn’t familiar with this company but when I stumbled upon these products, when I was browsing in Trade Secret, my local beauty supply store, they had an alluring 80 percent off tag. Who can resist a bargain like that. Me? Never! Especially, hair care. I use an anti-frizz product that I am quite satisfied with but I am always open to new products. This is a smoother which is applied before using flat irons which protects hair from ironing damage. I had never used a product like this before so I was quite excited to see the result.
Joico Silk Result Instant Smoother comes in a white and pink, plastic, 5.1fl oz bottle with a pump cap. The product has a watery consistency which is slightly sticky. The scent is a little difficult to explain. It has a distinct perfume that smells like it is covering a chemical odor. You know, a little like the scent that tries to cover perming solution but it is different. This product costs $10.99 (w/out 80 percent discount) at Trade Secret Beauty Supply.
I have never seen these kind of ingredients before. Mostly chemically produced, it put me on guard and the human hair keratin, yuck!

My Experience:
I washed and conditioned my hair with the same brand products and blow-dried. Those products left my hair shiny and full of body. I wanted the super straight hair I like and this is what I was aiming for. I sectioned my hair, sprayed the product liberally and used the flat-irons as indicated on the bottle.
Well, whenever heat touches damp, you know you are going to get some steam. I didn’t like that effect at all. It felt like I was cooking my hair. My hair also stuck to the irons a couple of times so I tried the brush and iron system (holding head to one side, brush then catch hair with iron and lightly squeeze as you iron). This method seemed to work better. Ultimately, the product was successful in straightening my hair but the ends dried out so it was not completely smooth. My hair was dull, the original shine had disappeared. Running my fingers through it, I could feel chemical build-up on my hands.
In Conclusion
I had never used a product used right before ironing before. I thought maybe it would be more effective than an application of anti-frizz serum on blow-dried hair. I was wrong. Joico Silk Result Instant Smootherdid not fulfill its claim. It did smooth my hair to a certain extent but left the ends dry which tells me it did not protect my hair from the heat. It also did not leave my hair shiny, it left it dull with obvious build-up. Although I have been pleased with the performance of some of Joico’s products, this one let me down. I cannot recommend this product for use on any type hair for protection from thermal styling. I would give the smoothing a 7 out of ten and the shine a zero.
