| uglybugg's Full Review: Jimi Wallet |
I cannot stand it when my purse gets too heavy and I don't like to be the family pack mule who ends up carrying my husband's keys and wallet in my purse. As a result I try to carry the smallest purse I can get away with so there is no room for anything but the necessities.
Still, I hate carrying a purse and always end up feeling like a yak with a pack on my back and with a shoulder ache. So I've gone ultra minimal and don't carry a purse at all anymore. It's been a challenge but there is really no need for dragging a bag around with me all the time. All I really need is a wallet with a few bills, my license, a credit card, and my health insurance card.
So when I made this decision to pare my load down to the bare minimum I turned to the internet and searched for "slim wallet" and found The Jimi. Although it did not receive very good reviews on Amazon.com, I decided to give it a try anyway as it seemed to totally meet my needs.
The Jimi is made of 100% recycled plastic and is available in several translucent colors. It is also the most compact, slim wallet I've ever seen. Measuring only 4.25 x 2.5 x .5 inches, the Jimi only allows for 5 cards and a few triple folded bills. In the palm of my hand it's just slightly larger than a deck of cards but not as thick.
The Jimi has a flip top which allows the user to flip it open and expand it fully. There are three raised dots on the front. Pushing down on the dots causes the top to flip open. Then it just folds open like a clamshell to expose the two inner sections.
The section that holds cards has a removable frame which holds the cards securely inside. I usually slide my license, health insurance card, AAA card and a credit card or two in there and they stay put. When I need to remove one I simply push the button to open the Jimi and slide whatever card I need out with my thumb. The frame is totally optional and will actually pop out of the wallet if one tries to cram more than 5 cards into the section. If the frame is removed, however, anything tucked inside may fly out when the wallet is opened.
The other half of the wallet is the money clip section. This consists of a flat plastic piece with a raised clip. The flat piece is slightly thicker than a credit card. I was actually able to fit more than that into this side of my Jimi. I was concerned about making change on vacation and not having enough room in the money clip section for change from a $20 but I was easily able to fit 5 triple folded bills and my license in that section. What's more, the money clip section slides completely out so one can carry just a license or credit card and some bills.
I almost did not order this wallet because a reviewer on Amazon stated that he could only get for cards and one quad folded $20 in his wallet. Well I don't know the size of the credit cards or money others are trying to carry around in their Jimis, but I never had an issue with mine at all. Whether on vacation or at home running errands, my Jimi has served me well these last few months.
My Jimi has held up to much use as well. It lives in my front jeans pocket with my car keys and has gotten a bit scratched but is not unsightly or anything. The plastic hinges have lived up to much opening and closing, and everything is still in working order.
One other thing I love about my Jimi is that there is a hole in the top so it can be attached to a lanyard, carabeener, or on a string. While on vacation I wore mine on a lanyard a few times as I was uncomfortable leaving my money and credit cards on the beach unattended. Jimi came right with me into the water and even lived through that. It is not waterproof so my money and cards got wet but wet money is still real money and no one seemed to care. And I was able to swim, snorkel, and relax knowing that my valuables were with me and not being stolen by someone on the beach.
The only issue I have had with my Jimi is really only a limitation with my lanyard. As I mentioned above, the Jimi is about a half inch thick. Well the hook on the end of my lanyard is a bit small so I had to work to attach it to the wallet and it marred the plastic a bit. Again, it is not unsightly and still works fine, but it did scratch it up a bit.
The Jimi is available at TheJimi.com, Amazon, and other online retailers. It is also available at a few sporting and outdoors stores. Go to TheJimi.com to find a retailer near you or to order. You can also see a demo there of the Jimi and other useful items.
The Jimi is $14.95 and is available in the following colors: Clear, Magenta, Stealth (grey), Ruby, Pink, Aqua, Safety (orange), Sea Glass (green), and Smoke (light grey). I got the green one and I love the color. It reminds me of the old glass Coke bottles.
Bottom Line
I was reluctant to give the Jimi wallet a try but I am so glad that I did. It not only worked perfectly while on vacation but it works with my everyday lifestyle as well. It keeps me organized, keeps me minimalized, and does not allow me to hold onto stuff that needs to be filed away someplace else or should be immediately thrown away.
While on vacation it was a big hit with my fellow cruiseship passengers and a day did not go by when I didn't do at least 2 Jimi demos.
