Having recently had a baby we weren't sure what all to get. My husband and myself hadn't had any "small" children in our home for six years! We wondered to ourselves should we bother to get a playpen if we were paying out to get a crib? Our answer? Definately!
My husband went to the local Kmart and purchased a J. Mason Sesame Street playpen for our newborn baby boy. He set it up and it fit perfectly in our room. Seeings how our baby had co slept with us we felt it would be easier to get him use to his own sleeping space this way.
The first great thing about it are the cute little, colorful character faces on the side. Ours has Elmo but it also has cookie monster and big bird. A lot of my older children missed out on Sesame Street with all the new shows on now and all so I decided this time around I would make sure this little guy had access to the creatures I had loved so much as a child myself.
The next great thing about this product is the "toy pouch" on the side, well that's what I use it for but you could use it for anything from toys to clothes to diapers! It helped keep our room orderly and in fact, it still does.
The most wonderful part about this product is it is safe. I don't know about you parents but I am a worry wart with capital w's in "real" life and I want to make sure my baby is safe, especially if the need arises to use the restroom or otherwise not be in that room baby is even for a moment.
The final deciding factor on this for us was the price. My husband paid 89.00 for it at the local Kmart. I had seen others I would've preferred to have but only because they had all the "bells and whistles" but this one worked just fine and was in our price range. It is easy to clean, folds up with relative ease, although admittedly not as easy as I noticed others can and the price was right.
I must admit that we don't use it a whole lot. We prefer to let him explore under our watchful eyes but when I'm upstairs doing chores and such I put him in it to play or at night to sleep. He isn't quite in *his* room in *his* crib just yet. This product is nice to have on visits to grandmas though where you aren't sure what may be laying around for baby to get into.
My only strong recommendation is that when you place your playpen *do* make sure you've left at least a foot on all sides so as to avoid any mishaps. Baby could fall against the mesh which gives and thus bonk his or her little precious bean on whatever hard object happens to be there.
