| Bryan_Carey's Full Review: Huggies Shea Baby Wipes |
Huggies is a popular name in baby products with an assortment of diapers and other things designed to keep babies clean and happy. One of the many products manufactured by Huggies are its baby wipes and one unique type of wipe is Huggies with Shea Butter, a cleaning cloth with special moisturizers.
Basic Facts About This Wipe:
This type of wipe, like other Huggies wipes, comes in a plastic container that features a pop- up top so that the wipes can be removed more easily. The pop up dispenser has a small plastic cover that snaps shut to keep the cloths moist and fresh. The entire top also opens up, providing a way to remove the wipes in larger quantities at once or to insert more wipes from a refill pack.
The plastic container used for these wipes is shaped like a rectangular box, measuring approx. 8.5 inches in length, 4.5 inches in height, and 4.5 inches in depth (all measurements include the overhang of the lid). The container for this specific type of wipe is yellow in color with the Huggies name spelled out on top of the smaller cover.
These wipes sell in packages of 72, which is a little smaller than the other Huggies wipes that come in a pack of 80. The price is still the same, so you are paying a slightly higher rate per wipe for these wipes then with other Huggies wipes. They also come in a mega pack of 224. Each wipe measures about 7 by 7.5 inches and is covered with a design that alternates teddy bears with paw prints.
Ingredients:
These wipes are free from alcohol and they are lightly scented with a smell that is similar to what you would get in an air freshener. They also have the special ingredient known as Peg- 50 Shea butter, which helps to moisturize and protect your baby skin.
Other ingredients used in these wipes include water, glycerin, potassium laureth phosphate, polysorbate 20, tocopheryl acetate, aloe barbadenis, tetrasodium EDTA, DMDM and hydantoin.
Customer Service:
More information on these wipes can be found by checking the web site, Huggies.com. Unfortunately, the web site covers only a few basic facts so if you need to know more, you will have to place a call. The toll- free number is 800-525-8388 and reps are available between 9am and 5pm Monday through Friday, Eastern Time.
Final Thoughts:
Huggies is a product of the Kimberly Clark Company and it is one of the best- known names in baby care. I have been buying Huggies products for several months now and the product that I use more than another other from this company is its baby wipes. I have tried several different varieties but this time I thought I would try something a little different by purchasing Huggies with Shea butter. I had never heard about this ingredient before but it sounded good so I made the purchase.
After some quick research, I discovered a few facts about Shea butter that make it seem like a worthwhile ingredient for a wipe. It contains certain fats, moisturizers, and vitamins that make it good for the skin. It also contains cinnamic acid- an ingredient that protects against the harmful UV rays from the sun. Shea butter helps skin cell regeneration and capillary circulation and it helps heal small wounds as well as act as a soothing cream for skin burns.
What does all of this mean for your baby? Well, babies generally dont need protection against UV rays on their bottoms, but they can benefit from the other properties of Shea butter, like the moisturizing benefits and the skin cell regeneration. You can tell a difference when compared to other baby wipes in the way your babys skin feels after use. There is greater moisture without the feeling of greasiness. The wipes transfer the moist ingredients quickly and they dry off of the skin quickly, too; leaving behind soft, smooth skin.
I like the scent of these wipes a little better than others. Like I said before, they have an air freshener type of smell that is less chemical- like than some other wipes I have tried. The wipes are thick enough that they will not tear during use and wet enough that you can feel the moisture without being so wet that they drip. The package lasts a good amount of time, but I often tear them in half whenever possible in order to make the package last a little longer.
One thing that Huggies hasnt perfected completely is the dispensing of these and other wipes. You must open the large cover when you first buy a package and then get the process started by feeding the first cloth through the rippled opening. You then close the large lid, pop open the small, oval shaped lid, and pull out the wipes. The wipes are connected by a small perforation that must be torn off with each wipe. The problem arises when you tear, because if youre not careful, the tear will occur very close to the base of the opening. And this means that, next time you open the small cover to pull out a wipe, there is a good chance there wont be enough cloth to grip, forcing you to open the large lid and re- feed.
These wipes sell in a package of 72 for a cost of about $2.99. There is a large package size containing 224 wipes for about $8.99. As you can see from these prices, the cost per wipe doesnt change very much when you go from the small size to the larger one. The cost is almost exactly three times more for the larger size, and the number of wipes included is three times larger, plus an additional 8 wipes. This doesnt provide much incentive to the buyer to purchase a larger quantity, and that is the main reason why I usually purchase the 72 pack instead.
This is the only baby wipe available that uses Shea butter and this ingredient does offer more protection for your babys skin than ordinary wipes. There is virtually no difference in the economic value of these wipes when compared to other Huggies wipes, so this will likely become my baby wipe of choice from this point forward. Added protection at a negligible cost makes Huggies baby wipes with Shea Butter an excellent choice for parents of small children.
