| ksmomof6's Full Review: Huggies Pull-Ups Goodnites |
Description of this product:
Goodnites, manufactured by Kimberly Clark (HUGGIES) are a protective underpant, made for older or heavier children. In design it is similar to a pullup, but wisely lacks the cute little cartoons on the panels. They are geared toward older kids, and that is a wise decision. They look similar to regular underpants, and less like a diaper. I feel this helps the older child feel better about wearing them. They also have a very trim fit, and depending on what my son is wearing to sleep in, you cannot even see them. What a delight when he stays over at grandmas....it doesn't draw attention to the problem.
Why we, personally love these:
I hope that when you read this commentary, you will see how very important this product is to our lives. My son is 11, he has Aspergers Syndrome and one of the things that comes with it for us is a deep deep almost unconscious sleep that prevents him from waking at night to use the toilet. Also this has at times been worse due to various medications he takes.
Alternatives we've tried:
We have struggled and struggled with this issue, trying to teach him. We've tried those horrid bed alarms. We've tried adult protective briefs (two major brands) but due to their fit we had leaks....We've tried just letting him sleep and dealing with wet sheets, but as he grew older and older it became quite apparent that he wasn't going to kick this anytime soon. We've tried medications, with only mild success, and poor side effects. Sadly it was starting to affect his self esteem. When you love a kid, you'll do just about anything you can to help nudge that along.
A note about their advertising
I just wanted to make special note that this company has pursued their advertising for this product in an important way. All of their print ads, and television ads portray this issue in a sensitive manner. The advertising clearly shows that "Hey you're not alone". "You're not the only one". What an important message to these children. Especially in the age range of my son, it is so important to feel "ok". Thanks to that, my son knows he's not the only older kid with the same problem. Thats more than I could ever tell him, coming from another source is so much more effective.
The "bottom" line. (Excuse the pun)
These WORK. My son is a very heavy wetter when he does have accidents and we have not had a problem with leaking. This was our major problem with adult type and brands of protective items, they fit poorly for a child, and we'd have leaks. Our routine with these is simple, if he has an accident, he is totally self reliant taking care of it. This is ever so important with a house full of children. He has a container of small plastic trash bags that he keeps in his room and if he wets, he can get up, change and dispose of the goodnites, with discretion.
At any rate, we are thrilled to have found these, grateful to the company for making them, and we highly recommend them...........
