pamnabi's Full Review: Hasbro: Nickelodeon Dora The Explorer Memory Game ...
My 4 1/2 year old son has reached the point is his young life where boredom is a serious malady. When T.V. time is over, and we've run out of play doh, and it's too hot to go outside. What do we do? We break out our Dora the Explorer Memory Game!!
If you are the proud parent of a preschooler, you probably already own some version of the popular Memory Game seris games. So why invest in another? There are several good reasons.
Inexpensive
The Dora The Explorer Memory Game is quite inexpensive as are all the Memory Game titles. Generally they retail in department stores for around $8-$10 dollars. But if you can wait a little bit, they always go on sale for $5 around the opening of the Christmas shopping season. Then you can pick up an extra and save it for gift emergencies!
Unique
A special feature of the Dora the Explorer version of memory is the background color on the cards. Instead of all being uniform there are three background colors to the face side of the card: red, pink, and purple. This so simple it's awesome innovation allows you to divide the deck into even thirds so you can play an abbreviated round of Dora the Explorer Memory when you're in a hurry. It's also nice to break the deck down for a younger player until they catch on to the idea of matching and develop more focus for longer games. Alot of times my son and I go through all the cards, we just play through in three short rounda instead of one long one. And of course for older kids. the full 72 cards can be used all at once (or even added to another deck of Memory cards for added challenge and fun!)
Simple
Dora the Explorer Memory requires no reading so it is appropriate for any young child who can sit still for a few minutes. It teaches turn taking skills, matching, and of course memory skills!
Dorarific!
This game most heavily features it's star character Dora, mostly in different outfits to help distinguish one set of doras from the other. But have no fear, all of your child favorite characters from the show make an appearance or two. Boots the Monkey, Diego, Benny the Bull, Isa the Iguana, Tico the Squirrel, the Fiesta Trio, Swiper, Map, Backpack, and even the Big Red Chicken are all featured in at least one pair of cards.
All of these are very good reasons to pick up a copy of this fun game. But for me the best one will always be the ability to shorten the game when needed. I love my little guy more than life itself, but sometimes more than 30 minutes of pretending to be suprised when he turns over the same card for the 37th time is just a little too much for me. This game makes it so everyone wins. What could be better?
