| Julie713's Full Review: Cheryl Owen - Handmade Gift Cards: Over 50 Origina... |
Valentine's Day is surely a holiday created by Hallmark. You have to at least buy one card and give it to someone. This year I showed my love of Valentine's Day with the three c's: candles, cards and chocolate. I know not the three C's you were thinking of, but let's keep this realistic. Cards are an important part of the holiday: handing out Valentines are a traditional and essential aspect of this holiday.
Cards, an important method of saying "I love you," were given to the staple individuals in my life for Valentine's Day. A humorous card stating, " This holiday is going to suck, so crank out the vacuum" from the Shoebox Greetings product line of Hallmark I felt was highly relevant for my sister's current relationship situation. A sweet tear-jerker for Mom, to keep the eyes watering and the hugs coming, from the From the Heart product line from Paramount. A thanks for Grams for being such a support to me from American Greetings. Finally, a generic "Be My Valentine" for the step-dad.
No matter who you are looking for there is a card for every situation.
Some people, like myself, are a little more creative than the average person. An excellent way to show your love rather than buying a card that any old person can run to the store and purchase, it means much more to create one yourself. You might think to yourself, "Self, it's easy to create a card!" Well, not so much. Some people need a step-by-step instruction on how to go about making a greeting card. An excellent book to teach you how to do this is Handmade Gift Cards: 20 Original Designs for All Occasions by Cheryl Owen.
Go ahead. Laugh. This book is a terrific instruction on how to create the perfect greeting card for any occasion. The step-by-step instruction is easy to follow, and there are 20 different designs for you to choose from. Make sure you have enough time to create your card, since it is indeed a craft. This isn't something that you can just throw together casually.
This book is definitely geared more towards adults or, at least, late teens. The book is 128 pages long, and the instructions aren't easy enough for a child to follow. The designs are also a little too mature for children as well. We're talking florals, shapes, different materials, things that can be just a little complicated for little hands.
The nice thing about the cards in this book is that you can add your own flare to them. They give a basic idea with some suggestions on how to add different materials, such as lace, glitter, colored clue, fabric, and other little accents. By using these different items, you can personalize the cards to the person that you're giving it to. Or, you can just keep them basic in case you need to give a card at the last minute.
And if you wait until the last minute to create your card and find you don't have the time, definitely make sure you don't wait until the last minute to buy a card. Otherwise, you will get stuck with the leftovers nobody else wants. Trying to but the same day as the holiday is definitely a no-no, especially on Valentine's Day. You'll just have to deal with about three hundred guys lined up in the drug store who had forgotten to mark the date in their calendar would definitely be on "the list" if they went home without a valentine. If they don't come home with that perfect card they know they won't be rewarded, and this day is all about couples romance and intimate rewards. No matter how small the gesture it is appreciated on this day. The card traditionally is the number one gift. Just think about how that loved one would react if you actually gave them a handmade card.
Handmade Gift Cards: 20 Original Designs for All Occasions can help you get that gasping reaction that you want from the person you love.
