ky2001ank's Full Review: Graco Nautilus 3-in 1 Convertible Car Seat
This carseat ranks very high on my list of favorite carseats. I bought it because my son had outgrown his Cosco Scenera, and I was worried that I still needed (and very much wanted) him to be in a harnessed seat, being that he was only 2 1/2 years old at the time. I purchased it, and began using it right away.
It is a very easy seat to use. The buckles and chest clip work easily and are not simple for the child to use themselves, which I see as a plus because I don't need to worry that they might unbuckle themselves while driving down the road. Over time, however, they do still learn to do so, and my 4 year old daughter can get herself in and out of the seat on her own, leaving me to do only a quick check to be sure she's secure.
The seat is roomy, with small storage compartments under each armrest and a cup holder as well. The seat is comfortably cushioned, and the headrest angles out beside the childs head - a perfect resting place on a long car ride.
There are plenty of slots to use as your child grows taller, and the harness can be used from 20 to 65 pounds. After that, the seat can be used as a high back/belt positioning booster from 30-100 pounds, and lastly, as a low back booster from 40-100 pounds. Personally, I will be leaving it as a harnessed seat until my children outgrow the harness, at which point we will change it to a high back booster until they reach 100 pounds or an age at which I am comfortable with them/they are mature enough to use the seat of the car.
The only drawback of this seat that I've found is that it is very heavy. If you are frequently switching carseats from one vehicle to another, this isn't your best choice more than likely. I also wouldn't choose this seat for airline travel, due to the need to haul its weight through the airport while corraling your children at the same time. :)
Installation is easy, with the seatbelt going through the slots on the back. There is plenty of room for your hands in comparison with other seats I have installed.
I have been thrilled with my purchase of the Graco Nautilus, and would certainly purchase the seat again as needed in the future.
