Okay, so my first comment is directed at Epinions itself: Do they know that it is a new season and that the Christmas brew of every brewery is different every year? The opinions of the 2000 brew have no relation to that of 2001. It would certainly be a pity if anyone avoided this beer because of the mediocre reviews of last year. This is a different beer entirely.
This is a delicious, full-bodied brew in the style of a porter, but neither too bitter nor too sweet. There is only a hint of spices, just enough to make the brew deliciously complex. It is dark, but not so heavy or syrupy as to be cloying. This is a very good choice with heavily spiced foods such as those which are normally served during the holiday season. It should be served with food; this is not a beer to be drunk to cool off after mowing the lawn. Isn't it fortunate that it's made in winter?
