amyk49's Full Review: Goldwell Kerasilk Treatment Rich Care 5.0 oz
The salon I go to uses only Goldwell hair products, and I just love the way my hair feels fresh from the salon. I asked my stylist what specific product he was using on my hair to make it so silky, and he said Goldwell Kerasilk Treatment.
~ Product Description
Taken from the tube, "Moisturize your hair with the original formula of Goldwell Kerasilk for dry, damaged or unmanageable hair. Natural silk proteins and care lipids make your hair instantly smooth, easy to comb, shiny and soft as silk."
The directions for use say to apply to shampooed, towel-dried hair, and leave in to process for 5 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
Note that Goldwell carries two different Kerasilk lines, the Rich Care line, and the Ultra Rich Care line. This is from the Rich Care line. You do need to read the tubes and bottles carefully to choose between the two lines.
Goldwell Rich Care Treatment comes in a 5 fl. oz. plastic tube that sits on its flip-up cap. The tube is a boring design featuring a not particularly attractive yellow color with gray/silver and red contrast.
Goldwell products are expensive, and I paid $13.89 for this at my local beauty supply store.
You should know that I have straight, fine, shoulder length hair with a tendency to be limp and without body, and it is color treated. I have an oily scalp, but dry and slightly damaged ends. I generally need to wash my hair daily. I am always challenged to find products that moisturize the dry and damaged areas yet won't leave my hair weighed down, greasy, or limp.
Although Goldwell also has shampoo and conditioners in the Rich Care line, I have continued to use my everyday shampoo, Aussie Cleanse and Mend, which has reliably never weighed my hair down or left any buildup.
After shampooing, I flipped up the cap and dispensed some Goldwell Rich Care Treatment into my palm. The first thing I noticed was that it is VERY thin in consistency. Much thinner than any conditioner or treatment I've ever used. It doesn't give the impression of being rich, at least as it comes out of the tube. It is a white liquid, almost, and it has barely any discernible scent. Although it is not advertised as scent-free, I can't really notice much of any fragrance, even sniffing right from the tube.
I applied the treatment to my wet hair, and found it easy to distribute throughout my hair. I left it on for a few minutes while I finished my shower, then rinsed. It rinsed out cleanly and easily, leaving my wet hair feeling soft.
My wet hair was easy to comb out, yet *maybe* just a tad less tangle free than some other conditioners I've used. Not a big deal though.
I blew dry and styled my hair as usual, and lo and behold, I had the same smooth and silky hair that I always had leaving the salon. It really did make my hair shiny, soft, manageable and very silky. I was amazed that such a thin, unimpressive, nearly liquid treatment could make that much difference.
The only thing is, that after several consecutive uses it did seem to weigh my hair down a bit with a slight build up. So now I use this occasionally, rather than every day, and it works quite well.
~ Final Thoughts Goldwell Kerasilk Rich Care Treament is a unique conditioner/treatment that gives hair a smooth, silky texture, adds shine and manageability, and helps repair damaged hair. After daily use however, I noticed a build up that weighed my hair down. It's expensive, but worth a try if you have dry, damaged hair.
