| Freak369's Full Review: Genisoy Low Carb Crunch Peanut Butter Bar |
Low carbohydrate bars are a dime a dozen these days; every company that makes some type of bar has put out a low carb bar in the hopes of capturing some of the millions of dollars that consumers spend on a yearly basis. Sadly a lot of the bars lack any type of taste and if they do have a taste, it is something that makes you want to gag. When I first tried the Genisoy Low Carb Crunch Peanut Butter Bar I fell in love with it. I got a bunch of these before we moved across country and had a hard time finding them when we got to the east coast. Wal-Mart was the only place that I found them so I stocked up on them. If you have never tried these I can almost guarantee that youll love them or at the very least like them more than most other bars that have a low impact on your blood sugar level. Outside of the taste and low carb appeal, this will also give you 25% of the RDA [recommended daily allowance] of the following vitamins and minerals: zinc, copper, calcium, Vitamins E, B6, B12, A and C, iron, niacin and biotin. Not bad for a low carb bar! [The RDA and percentages are based on a 2,000 calorie a day diet.]
Genisoy Low Carb Crunch Peanut Butter Bar
Its pretty hard to peg the exact taste of this bar, it tastes like peanut butter but not like peanuts - weird huh? There is a definite crunch to it and you really have to chew it for a while for it to break down so this isnt something that you are going to be able to eat at a fast rate. Theres no nasty after taste to it and it makes for a great snack or something to have between meals when you get a craving for something to munch on. Its not overly sweet and since you have to chew on it for a while you do get the feeling that you are actually consuming something; with some of the softer bars you tear through it pretty quickly and still feel hungry. This isnt designed to be a meal replacement bar since its only a little over and ounce and a half so please dont try to substitute this for a meal. It doesnt look like the most appealing of things when you get it out of the wrapper, sort of like a granola bar with peanut butter smeared on it. It is a pretty solid bar so its not messy to eat and doesnt get all over your fingers. Another great thing is that you can break it up into smaller pieces so if you only want half the bar, dividing it up isnt a major project.
The peanut butter flavor is pretty popular so dont be surprised if your store is sold out of them. The Genisoy Low Carb Crunch Chocolate is good too so if the peanut butter flavor is sold out, grab a couple of these to hold you over until the others are stocked. A great thing to do with these is to break up a bar of each flavor [chocolate and peanut butter] and have them together. If you are counting carbs closely you will want to make sure that you divide up the mixture into two parts. Its a great way to kill a craving and the taste combination takes like a candy bar. Since this only has one gram of sugar it is something that you can treat yourself to without worrying about killing your diet or snapping you out of ketosis. One last thing, ignore the smell that first hits you when you open the wrapper, thats the scent of soy nuggets, something that gives the bar its bulk and crunch.
Price
This is something that you will be able to find at larger grocery stores and specialty places like Trader Joes [oh how I miss that place] but as I mentioned, the only place I have been able to find them here is at Wal-Mart. They charge about $1.10 for a bar which is a pretty good price considering the taste of it. If you try this and like it you can purchase them by the box from most online sites that sell low carbohydrate products. Trader Joes had these for .97 cents but since there are none of those stores here, Im stuck getting them at Wal-Mart. I would buy these online if I knew that I would be getting something that has a long shelf life but that is one of the risks that you take when you are buying something from an online vendor.
The Bottom Line
If you are doing a low carbohydrate diet or are just looking for a nice snack to have, this is a great pick. The flavor is great, its extremely crunchy and when you are done with it you feel like you had something solid to eat. I guess a lot of that is psychological because you are only getting a little over an ounce and a half of product per bar. You might try this and hate the taste of it but in my opinion I think it has an awesome taste and it holds me over until I can have a proper meal. Common sense should tell you that if you are allergic to peanuts or peanut butter that you should avoid this bar.
