| amwillia1978's Full Review: Gateway GT5032 (RBGT5032) PC Desktop |
This is the worst, most unreliable computer I have owned. It's not surprising that Gateway is out of business now. In the two years it lasted, it went out of service twice. We were lucky to get it running again the first time. The most recent fatal problem involved programs encountering a problem and needing to close. Then Windows would crash and go to a blue screen.
Unfortunately, Gateway's system restore CDs couldn't fix the problem. We tried both the original system restore CDs, plus a system restore DVD we obtained from Gateway for $20. Certain files always failed to extract. We even tried using different drives and a new XP CD, but nothing worked. At one point in the restore process, the system crashed and restarted itself in a loop until someone hit the power button to shut it off.
A tech support person from work noticed the computer was missing some drivers including the internet cable driver (or that the drivers just weren't working). The drivers were most likely the files that failed to extract from the system restore CD.
The person who fixed our first problem warned that we would probably have to get a new computer. We never understood why until now. Since Gateway was going out of business, they may not have cared about designing this computer right. Maybe they hoped to earn some extra money with tech support.
