susieq112's Full Review: Fisher Price Press and Go Farm Truck
I was so jealous when Fisher Price expanded there Amazing Animals line into a farm truck with a small pig and lamb sitting in the bed of the truck. Quickly noting the fact that the set was marked for children six months and up I slumped past the toy thinking my fifteen month old probably wouldnt get much use out of it and it would probably be a waste of money.
So I walked buy it a few more times and ended up buying it when he was nearly sixteen months old - I just couldnt resist - It was too cute.
Fisher Price Press & Go Farm Truck - About The Toy
This little truck is actually a three piece set: the truck, a lamb and a pig. The main piece is of course the truck itself which measures in at about ten inches long by seven or so inches wide and its general height (the truck bed) is about six or so inches. (Sorry I have to guess my tape measure disappeared months ago )
The truck includes a few a features, most notable being the cow that is driving it. The cow is permanently attached to the drivers seat and he is brown and white, you can even see his hooves holding a plastic molded steering wheel. The truck is a push and go toy so you can press down on the cows head and releasing him causes the front wheels to spin. When you press down on the cows head you also hear the noise of a cow mooing and some country music OR the beep of a horn and some country music. The cows head can also be turned to the right or the left and it clicks as you move it.
The body of the truck is bright lime green, the front grill is orange and they even have the headlights painted white. The wheels are done in a bright blue with a little bit of molding in the plastic for the rims.
The truck is a flatbed and this portion of the truck is bright yellow. The inside of the bed also has a few flat molded details like apples and pieces of hay. The side of the flatbed on the outside has one sticker on each side which features cartoon-like pictures of farm animals.
The Press & Go Truck takes 2 AA batteries, but this only runs the moos, beeps and music on the truck so even though I havent had to replace the batteries I probably wont have to. The spinning of the wheels is a mechanical process that doesnt require battery power. The back of the truck also has an on/off switch so you can turn the sound/noise off if you so wished.
Another piece included in the set is the lamb. The lamb is a pretty basic figurine. He is about four inches long and about four inches in height. The main body of the lamb is made out of white molded plastic and the feet and face are purple plastic. The face of the lam features a painted noise, eyes and rosy cheeks. Unlike other animal figurines in the Amazing Animal line by Fisher Price this lamb doesnt feature any moving parts but he does make a squeaking sound when you shake him.
The pig included in this set is more reminiscent of the Zoo animals Im use to from the Amazing Animals line and hes comparable to the animals included in the Push & Pull Babies train add-on. The pig is a little larger than the lamb, probably a little closer to six inches in height and he is also made out of a heavier plastic that is comparable to other animals in this line. The pig features softer ears, a head that turns and clicks and fused legs (front together, back together) that can be moved back and forth. The pig also has a cute molded nose and tail along with some paint for small details.
My Thoughts
Okay so weve had this toy for a few months and I still think its cute, but it absolutely sucks as a toy. Well thats how I felt when I sat it down on the floor pressed down on the cows head and the truck went no where. Fisher Price has a pretty good design flaw that they need to work with on this one. The push and go mechanism wont work on the carpet. Wonderful - seeing that we just put an overly large area rug in the living room. So I picked it up to make sure I hadnt broke it while fighting to get it out of the packaging the wheels immediately started to spin. I then sit it down on an open spot in our hardwood and tried it again. Then it took off until it hit the edge of the area rug
Thought #1 - The usefulness of the truck is diminished because it wont work on the carpet.
I was a little shocked with the lamb in this set. Its design doesnt really match in with the other animals in the Amazing Animals line. Its slightly small in comparison to the size of the pig and I generally think of a lamb being a little larger in stature than a pig The lamb is also made out of lighter plastic than other animals in this line even when comparing it to the pig in this set.
Thought #2 - Even though the lamb didnt meet my expectations hes still cute.
Thought #3 - The only item in the set that really performed as I expected was the pig.
My Son Tries It Out
Obviously since the press and go action doesnt work on carpet and the majority of my sons play area is covered in carpet this function hasnt meant much to him. He likes the truck but hell push it around rather than use the push and go feature. The squeaking feature in the lamb was pretty much ignored by son at his age, but its something he liked in his toys at a younger age. His main attraction in the set is the truck rather than the animals. He does play with the pig a little bit and sometimes grabs the giraffe and elephant from the Push & Pull Baby set and plays with them together. Overall however my son doesnt have much interest in this toy as a set he either plays with the truck or the animals but not at them same time. Id also say this wasnt something he seemed extremely excited to get either. Hes played with the toy quite a bit but the longer hes had the less attention he seems to pay to it.
Overall I have to say Ive been disappointed with the Push & Go Farm Truck, the fact that the truck doesnt roll well on a smooth, short pile carpet is a major downfall.
