Kittyokc's Full Review: Petco Feather Teaser Cat Toy
The Petco Feather Teaser is a must-have for cat owners who have cats that love feathers.
This is a fairly simple cat toy, it is a 36 inch long plastic rod with a 30 inch long string attached, at the end of the string is a detachable group of feathers, which probably measure another couple of inches. The plastic rod is very durable and it will give and bend, but not break, no matter how much you and your cat tug back and forth. The feathers that come with the teaser are very colorful and attach to a little black plastic nub via a chain at the top of the bell and feathers.
I decided to try out the supposed easy on and off of these feathers and it was very easy to take off and then put back on, which makes it good if you wanted to buy additional teasers to put on the toy when the feathers finally get destroyed, unfortunately we weren't able to try that out, more about that later.
Of course the biggest test was playing with the cats with it and I have to say that it was a big hit, especially with Reva. With her, all you have to do is dangle the feathers in front of her to get her to play, the only problem with this is once she gets interested, she never wants to stop. My arms will get tired of holding it before she will tire of playing with the feathers, she just loves it.
Frisky took a little more to get him interested, I had to kind of drag it across the floor to get him interested in trying to chase it. Once he got interested, he would grab the feathers with his paw and bring it to him, unfortunately it wasn't the feathers he was interested in, it was the string. He would grab it by the feathers to bring it closer so he could chew on the string. While he found this to be a fun thing, it didn't bode well for the toy since it weakened the string and the string eventually broke.
Once the string broke it became two toys for the cats to play with. Reva continued to play with the feathers until she had them completely destroyed, we found small feather pieces all over the place. Both Frisky and Reva would play with the shortened string attached to the pole when we dangled it in front of them and Reva would pull the toy around by the string, mostly to bring it to you so you would play with her with it.
Since I mentioned it was a must-have for cat owners that have cats that love feathers, you're probably wondering why since it broke, well, even though the string did break, the cats still got a lot of fun and use out of the toy, first as it was intended and then they basically invented their own ways of playing with it. Yes, I wish the string were stronger, especially since Frisky loves to chew on strings, but that doesn't mean it wasn't worth it. Both cats had a blast playing with it and if your cat isn't a chewer, the string should last.
