| gdwtch22's Full Review: Fantom Vacums Lighting Canister Vacuum |
We purchased the Fantom Lighning Vacuum a little over a month ago. We purchased it mainly for use in our restaurant, so needless to say it gets used a great deal. Having used it so much I can give a pretty well informed opinion of it. Overall, I'm very pleased with our purchase.
First of all, the sucking power of the Fantom is truly amazing. I have used it on a seemingly clean floor and it still managed to suck dirt off the floor. It really seems to find dirt out of nowhere. The stair hugging design is really cool too. Though our restaurant doesn't have any stairs, I have taken the vacuum home and used it on my own stairs. It stays on the stair you put it on instead of falling down and pulling you with it. This feature can be appreciated by anyone who has been jerked down the stairs by a vacuum. The vacuum head is the perfect size, no too big and not too small. It fits easily between chairs and manuevers around table bottoms well. The head also gets the dirt and stuff along the wall. There are several attachments that fit neatly in a little compartment on the back of the machine. There is a brush attachment (good for drapes, and mini-blinds) and two different sized angled attachments (good for hard to reach crevices). The power cord is plenty long enough too. The dining area of our restaurant is 700 square feet, and I never have to stop and move the cord to a closer outlet, and thats even going between tables and chairs. When you are done using the vacuum all you have to do is push a button and the cord is sucked back into the machine, no having to wind the cord up around the back. The canister is really easy to empty. All it takes is the push of a button, and it snaps back into place with ease too. I love the bagless concept. With conventional bag vacuums eventually it stops sucking as well as it did when you first changed the bag. If that happens with the Fantom Lighning, all you have to do is empty the canister and it works like new. Also there is no filter to clean. The unit follows behind as I go really easy too. Some vacuums take a lot of coaxing to get around. The on/off button is large and can be pushed with the tap of a foot, which I really like. I hate tiny buttons that require bending over to push. There is also a button on the wand that allows you to shut off the head while leaving the machine running. Well, I think that completes all my pros, and now I'll tell you the few things I did find annoying about the Fantom.
These are really minor problems, but ones that you might find a little more bothersome. While using the vacuum I have noticed that the attachment door doesn't always stay closed. It opens up and spills all the attachments as I'm going. I don't really enjoy having to stop vacuuming to pick up the attachments. I think that perhaps this problem is due to the fact that we bought the vacuum "factory refurbished", but I don't really know. Also, when I try to release the nozzle from the head to use one of the attachments, it really takes a lot of pulling to release it. Now, this can be good, and bad. The nozzle won't release while you are using the head, however when you don't want to use the head it makes it a little difficult. I guess you just have to take the good with the bad. Overall, this vacuum was a good purchase. It's been over a month and we have had no mechanical problems at all. I think it will be around for a long time to come.
