| Pampushky's Full Review: Eureka Enviro Steamer 370 Upright Vacuum |
I bought this Eureka after having my trusted Hoover for some eight years. I went to vacuum one morning, heard a horrible grinding, moaning cry, and watched my vacuum lie lifeless on my dirty floor. Nothing could be done, so I threw it out on trash day, and knew that I would have to start saving up money to ever replace her. I still have no idea why the heck vacuums are so expensive, and why they range in price so widely, but nonetheless, I knew we'd have to do without food for a few months just to buy a new one.
I did all kinds of price checking for vacuums online, using Mysimon.com, and even eBay, but decide that I had to buy one I could actually see in person. What I really wanted was an Oreck, since my mom has one and hey are so light, quiet, and efficient. But, the $350.00 price tag spooks me, so I started on a much more realistic vacuum quest. I went to Target, Best Buy, Walmart, everywhere I could think of finding affordable vacuums, and realized that I could not find a good vacuum for under $175.00. Ouch! However, oneday I was buying stuff for my mom at Sam's Club and this cool grey vacuum sort of called me over. It was a Eureka, one I had never tried. I looked at the book, read over the features, and knew it had to be expensive. Wrong, it was only $89.00. So, I bought it.
Eagerly, I brought my new friend home and put it together. It looked fancy, all sleek and grey, very modern. It was heavy, something I frowned upon after using that 8lb. Oreck. I really liked the stretchy attachment hose since my Hoover's hose seemed so short. This model also had a 15" cleaning bar, which made me visualize less cleaning time. I plugged it in, hmmm...quiet. It kind of lurches ahead, and I wondered if I had bought a self-propelled model. Not exactly, but it is light on its, um, feet. It cleaned really well, and I really liked the attachments being so easy to switch and hook up.
What I didn't like is something I can't fix. I am 5'10" and the back saver handle seems really low to me. I have to stand really close to the vacuum or I end up holding the vacuum for the very tip of the handle, which makes me feel like I have no control over my dirt cleaning endeavors. The vacuum moves so easily on its own that I practically have to hold it back, sort of like a wild stallion. Brooms, mops and vacuums are not made typically for the tall housewife, and so when you are 5'4" you don't even notice that things are uncomfortable, but for me, this vacuum needed to be longer in the handle. Fortunately, I don't plan to spend my life vacuuming, so the slight discomfort is only slightly annoying. But, it is a flaw anyhow.
I do recommend this Eureka Smart Vac. It was affordable, and works really well...unless you are Michael Jordan.
