zlmajors's Full Review: Dyson DC15 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
Ok I just couldn't hold back with the title.
Here's the background, I saw a discovery channel story about vacuums, and one portion centered on James Dyson. Specifically about his long trek to discovering a "better Vacuum." Did you know that he made 5,127 prototype models before coming up the cyclone method Dyson uses in all their models of today?
Well anyways, my old Hoover finally broke, and I wanted to get "the best" within reason that is, not made of money. I picked the Dyson DC15, otherwise known as "the ball".
SUMMARY
The Dyson DC15 uses a cyclonic system called root cyclone technology that creates 220 airwatts, which equates to a lot of suction. It uses a big ball that replaces the traditional wheels of a vacuum. The ball gives it a lot more maneuverability around furniture and makes it easier to push.
The head of the DC15 is low to give it easy reach underneath objects. It comes with a "carpet care kit", which is really just the normal attachments for a vacuum, but unlike most vacuums they are secured fairly well to the vacuum. The handle telescopes out to become a cleaning wand, with about 8 foot reach.
The DC15 has a washable HEPA filter, and the dirt storage chamber can collect about 2 pounds of matter before needing to be emptied. Emptying it is a snap, simply unclip the cylinder from the vacuum, hold it over a trash bin and push the drop release button on top, a trap door opens and the dirt falls out.
The DC15 was designed around ease of use and not having to replace anything on it, meaning no more vacuum bags, or HEPA filters. Plus the key point of any Dyson is that it won't lose suction all the way up to the point where dirt starts to clog the cyclone chamber.
If I had to say one weakness the DC15 has, as do most of the upright Dysons, it's that the telescopic handle is a little unwieldy. That and the cost, it is more than the average any other kind of vacuum, but overall I think you'll save money on not having to replace bags or HEPA filters.
If you can afford it, get this vacuum, after a small learning curve, you will LOVE to vacuum.
