When my children recently went to the dentist I was admonished for not having them floss on a daily basis. So even though I did not care for the Dentek flossers I tried, I hoped the Dentek Fun Flossers would help my children develop some good oral hygiene habits.
What You Get I purchased Dentek Fun Flossers in a resealable bag of 48 neon floss holders. Each floss holder has about 1/2" of an inch of fluoride coated, fruit flavored, dental. The plastic handle is angled to make it easier to reach back teeth. Dentek Fun Flossers are intended for single use and then thrown away.
Our Experience My daughters, Six and Seven, absolutely love Dentek Fun Flossers. I have no trouble getting them to floss at least once a day; if not twice. They claim to love the fruit flavor of the dental floss; personally I can hardly taste it. The small handles are easy for them to manipulate and get between all of their teeth. They don't seem at all bothered by reusing the same small piece of floss between all of their teeth. With the relatively large spaces between their teeth not much gets caught. But using these floss holders is about developing good habits that will hopefully last a lifetime.
And then there is Four. He's not ready to floss on his own yet; lacking the fine motor skills, attention span and his general four-ishness. I use Dentek Fun Flossers when I floss his teeth. They are much easier for me to use on him than a regular piece of floss. I don't feel like I am stuffing my fingers in his mouth to floss his teeth, like I do if I use a regular piece of floss. I have never had the floss shred or pull off of the floss handle; and his teeth are fairly close together.
Pink? Why'd it Have to be Pink? Mu kids usually pick the multi-colored bag of 48 flossers. My only complaint is the color choice for the holders: neon orange, blue, green and pink. At only four, my son is already starting to balk at the color pink. My daughters do not care which colors they use, in fact they make a game out of closing their eyes and picking a color from the bag. I would think neon yellow would be more appealing to both boys and girls than the neon pink.
Final Thoughts While I thought the adult version of Dentek Flossers were a waste of money, I love the kid's version. They make it easy for my older children to floss on their own and for me to floss my son's teeth. Yes, I hate that we are throwing them away after a single use, but eventually they will move on to regular floss; at least I hope so!
