| mrp124's Full Review: Dell Inspiron 2200 PC Notebook |
This is my second DELL. The first is a desktop 4600. This laptop is not for the high end power users (get a XPS Gen 2, but it is an excellent choice for the budget minded consumer looking for general all purpose use like word processing, Internet WIFi - wired or wireless, a back up computer, sending a chld off to college and need laptop then this would be a good choice ( there are other brands for the price). Personally, I use this laptop for gradekeeping and occasional internet (wired) and sometimes Wifi. Total cost for me was 640 dollars - a built in wifi card was added to the config. Price I couldnt pass up since I was considering spending 300-350 for a used pentium.
The computer is loaded with too many start up programs and boots slow. You can easily edit the start up and change some settings to make the laptop boot up faster. Although, I checked off no extra software, DELL did load them up anyways including a trial of Norton Security. The only thing useful that DELL loaded up was Sonic - a back up software. I didnt need all this extra stuff, I have my own software.
Basic system is configured with 256 MB RAM, I would spend a little extra and put in at least 512 MB RAM. The matte black finish is also nice but we all know black gets dirty too easy and a matte silver would have been nicer. Black is harder to keep clean.
I have had a blue screen(computer froze) the first week I had my laptop. So far, it has not shown up, I guess I had conflicts after putting in new programs. I have had my laptop for about 3 weeks. I am quite content with this laptop. I do recommend that when you buy a DELL laptop and it comes with no OS or driver disks that you create a back up per instructions that DELL gives on their web site. The documentation is not very good.
A hard copy owners manual would have been nice.
