| bgoodday's Full Review: Cosco 10-T41 Toddler Bed |
When we found out my wife was pregnant with our second, and might I add last child, we decided to go ahead and put our oldest son in a Big Boy Bed. He was really thrilled with this idea and the following Saturday afternoon, we went shopping.
We let him choose the bed he wanted, within reason, and this is the one he liked. I learned later on that the reason he chose this particular bed is because it did not have the so called “baby rails” on it.
We assembled the bed, in a matter of about fifteen minutes, and placed the new mattress on it. Normally you cold use the mattress that was in the crib but since we had baby number two on the way, we had to purchase another one. That night he was so excited to go to sleep, one of the only times in his life it has been easy to get the child to go to sleep.
My wife and I constantly woke to check on him throughout the night. The first few night’s things went pretty smoothly. We placed pillows on the floor next to the bed in case he fell out of it. The bed was only about five or six inches off the floor, a definite plus, but we thought the cushioning would make it less freaky when he did fall.
On the third night he slept in his big boy bed, my wife went in to check on him and he was not in bed. She frantically ran around the house looking for him and in a total panic woke me up. We searched for about ten minutes and then for some reason I got down on my hands and knees and looked under his bed. There he lay cuddled up to the wall with his blanket in his arms.
After spending ten minutes trying to pull him out from under the bed, a bomb could go off and this kid would not wake up, we decided to pick the bed up. This is plus number two for the bed. It is lightweight. After rearranging the furniture, at two o’clock in the morning, we put him back in his bed.
This went on for about two weeks and we were becoming so frustrated we were ready to purchase another bed with rails. WE were certain that the reason he kept ending up on the floor was because he was falling out of bed. When we sat down and talked to him about it he explained in his two year old voice, “Like bed not monsters.” He was purposely climbing out of the bed to avoid the big green monsters that were trying to get him. Rails would have not helped us at all. We decided to keep the bed and deal with the monsters.
This bed was used for both boys. It was used as a trampoline on occasion, moved around constantly, and aside from a few scratches in the metal, it would have been a great bed to give another child. I say would have because we went through a wrestling stage in our house and the body slamming eventually took a toll on the bed. After years of abuse, the bed finally caved in the middle.
All in all in was definitely worth the money. It wasn’t the most expensive bed, but whoever said money can buy happiness anyway. I thank you all for reading and I hope you have a great night.
